Agreed. There are some voices I trust just as much(Saffron Olive, Reid Duke etc), but the prof is in the top tier list. The problem is hasbro needs MTG to bolster its profitability, so they are pressuring WotC, who is pressuring the MTG management to squeeze out as many products as is possible. The health of the game is secondary at this point. I'm honestly surprised the whales haven't given up and moved on to other IPs that are less greedy.

@Nocsha21718 сағат бұрын
Honestly speaking, I understand why someone outside of the game may believe its a negative channel, but you are accurately tracking the progress of the game and the financial decisions the company is/are making. The game itself is consistently sacrificing long term health for short term gains, the gains are really working(and new future magic players are constantly being born), so maybe they can ride the momentum out during our lifetime, but I really hope Magic as a whole continues to grow and learns fron their mistakes, rather than Doubling down on them like we see lots. But you yourself aren't negative about Magic the Gathering, rather negative about Hasbro (putting it as Hasbro, because thats where 70% of the bad decisions are coming from). Most people are only going to watch the trending videos or reviews from the channel, which are just being honest. You're one of the biggest positive forces in the community and both of my brief interactions with you have been highlights of ny time in the hobby.
@sixtysixstyx18 сағат бұрын

@masonwilliams69217 сағат бұрын
It can be both. He’s clearly in a negative space currently about the route magic is taking. That doesn’t mean he needs to apologize for it or try to rationalize his feelings on his channel like this. It’s his channel he can do what he wants but trying to claim shuffle up and play and things like that as positive is disingenuous as they are clearly neutral videos with both complaining and highly touting magic. Framing them at the beginning of the video with “they aren’t negative” is a bit of a trumpism in how he skirts around the truth while attempting to convince us he’s a positive content creator.
@gulthor17 сағат бұрын
@@finks1I think we need to be honest at this point that WotC is to Hasbro as Blizzard is to Activision - which is to say there's no longer an effective distinction. I think this may be where the bulk of it comes from. I’ve enjoyed watching shuffle up and play but my partner and others have mentioned that the professor specifically seems to complain a lot, what he refers to as whinging here. Him going “of course you’re going to target me!” And complaining about dungeons and never taking a dungeon card, or the other universes beyond cards and mechanics he has no interest in. Also mentioning that cards are too wordy and he doesn’t care. It’s all fine and I don’t super notice it but it is consistent enough that I can see people seeing it as constant criticism of this game and (like it or not) valid mechanics therein. So it can come off as him negative and a “why do you even play it?” Or at least not rule zero the mechanics and cards you don’t like

First off, love your content, been watching you for... honestly can't remember, but it's over a decade at least at this point, and I'm a huge supporter. To now provide some critical feedback because I know you'll appreciate it: (1) I think what some people may be referring to is that there are negative leans even in the "positive videos" just like there are positive statements in the negative videos. There are side comments mentioning your distain for certain aspects of the game or WotC decisions, throwing shade at Wizards, and sarcastic comments that have truth behind them. (2) I think sometimes the attempts at humor land wrong for the audience. You play up the "old man yells at clouds" so well at times, people may either take you too seriously or think, "he mentions this joke an awful lot... maybe he really is upset about ____." Also, in reality, we use humor to mask our discomfort, so much of humor is based in deep seated emotions about subjects. And your other videos and viewpoints make it very clear that you are super critical of WotC (as you should be) and some take that criticality as negativity. (3) Be confident in yourself! I think sometimes in your open-form / off-script videos you're very self-conscious of how you say things or how you come across and that puts the audience in an awkward place too. People love your authenticity; they love you for who you are! I mean, you're the largest MTG KZbinr out there! People love you! So give yourself some grace and don't be so critical of yourself. When you're negative about yourself, people feed off that and start thinking negatively of you too. Celebrate your opinions and differences, and don't be apologetic for what you say or do (unless you actually say some offensive stuff, then apologize of course). People feed off your confidence and have a hard time seeing you as negative if you portray a confident you who loves yourself and loves life! You got this! Keep going and keep making tons more positive content for years to come!

Your product reviews are some of the most important things you do and I'm so grateful that they are so detailed and clear grades with reasoning are given. Not only does it fit the theme of the channel but it helps us so much. When I got back into the game learning the difference between Jumpstart, Jumpstart 2022 and the set Jumpstarts like BRO, ONE and MOM was ENORMOUS! We almost wasted a bunch of money on that trash but instead learned that there was a massive difference in the quality from Jumpstart and set Jumpstarts. The videos were easy to find and the information was very easy to review. Deck boxes, playmats, all that is the same. I really look forward to these videos when I see Gamegenic, Ultimate Guard and Ultra Pro releasing new products. Your past reviews help to predict the quality but how do I know they didn't change the magnets or stitching or whatever and now it fails the shake test? I also love your other videos and kickstart SUP each season. Every video Jesse Robkin writes is a home run. I watch pretty much everything you put out and I like most of it. The prof is one of the most balanced voices in the community, always promoting a healthy way of approaching the game, such as ending every product review with a recommendation to support your LGS within reason. I think if there’s any negativity towards TCC it’s probably because a lot of people lack the common sense to understand you can (and should) be critical of something you love.

God I can't stand "content creators" that all they do is only rip open packs in search for big hits

Prof is one of the most positive personalitys I've ever watched! You are absolutely a force for good in this community and your videos are a cornerstone of the game. I fully believe people go into the videos like shuffle up and play, find one sound bit of the professor or someone else saying something along the lines of "that card is so dumb" or "i don't like The Initiative" and say they entire thing is a video dumping on magic.

I got back into MTG because of this channel, opening my first packs since Mirage back in 96. Your videos reminded me how much fun card games could be and I've always felt like this channel gave me a positive idea of MTG

This honestly makes me a little sad, maybe disappointed. This isn't some hate channel or conspiracy psycho. The fact that the Professor had to waste time on making a video like this because some people are sensitive or just being trolls is just frustrating. But I really am glad the Professor is considerate of everyone. I give this video an A.

I’m going to guess the people who want to complain about prof about being critical are also the same people who hate receipts.

I don’t comment often. Prof, you are one of the few people in the larger creator space who I trust the opinion on for the most part. I appreciate how critical you can be, and my friends share almost every one of your videos on tech, supplies, boosters, sets, and everything in between.

Absolutely not, you're a Champion for the game.... But sometimes that means not agreeing with the currnet direction its going.

He's positive and biased for the average player and that's a good thing. He doesn't suck up to the powers that be. I love that he always emphasises buying singles and doing business with your local game store.

This Magic the gathering player is grateful to the Professor and the Tolarian Community College. I chose to play magic after watching the content made in this channel. Less then 6 months in and I enjoy the games a lot more than I had ever imagined I would and I can make the right purchases because of the Professor and other content creators because of their fair critique on mtg products. Thank you Professor, everyone in TCC and other content creators who share their fair critique on mtg products

I want to preface this with that I think the professor is very fair with his criticism and reviews and I don’t see him as a negate person. However I think this video adds more fuel to the fire then not because counting videos that you don’t actually share an opinion in feels more number padding to the positive video count because how can gameplay be positive or negative when you don’t share an opinion on the game I think this goes also with deck techs because again no opinion about the actually game just about the deck. Off the numbers you provided I would say that negative to positive videos (if we don’t count non opinion based videos for positive or negative) would be much closer to 40/60 with 40% being negative.
@bubbahms14 сағат бұрын
I will point out that wording is important here, as the professor never said positive vs negative, but negative vs non-negative. The difference is subtle, however important. Positive would be praising the game, with happy tones, and minimum to no criticism. Non-negative is more of a catch all for any video with little to no negativity (bashing the game, spreading toxic thoughts or ideas, criticism, and calling the company out, etc.) I would also make the argument that deck techs and gameplay videos are positive (or at least non-negative) as they give the viewer ideas and encourages people to play the game indirectly (an at least non-negative take). You wouldn't share a cool deck idea or possible mechanics and game play strategy unless you wanted people to play it, growing the community and the game. Fuel to the fire, yeah, I don't think this video needs to exist personally. There will always be criticism for influencers and KZbinrs that range from constructive to life threatening, and this video may be used in the future by one of his haters in some manner. People who actually watch professor's know the truth, and I'd say the majority of us will say that he is fair, and mostly positive even when talking about the negative aspects of the game or of recent events that he does not agree with.

Pragmatism is not always negativity, and being skeptical can help be more informative. That’s why I trust your channel for informed decisions about this game, and I don’t think that needs to change at all. ❤

I feel that Prof's passion for Magic and high expectations of its potential is misconstrued as general negativity. He genuinely loves and is invested in magic, which is why this is the largest mtg channel on KZbin. Keep doing you Prof.

Not negative enough. These toxic positivy preachers need a reality check and realize these companies just want to screw your money over. We want the game to improve and be the ebst could always be. Been negative emans we still care. Apathy is what kill it. People that don't care for the game is the worst thing that could happen.
@zerken7716 сағат бұрын
Something to take into account is people are much more likely to remember a bad experience than a good one so just a few negative videos stand out much more than the many positive ones. Also important that being critical is essential for the long term health of that thing. You don’t go the doctor/dentist for them to say you are healthy if you are not

Thank You, Prof.

Witam. Najlepiej dużo konkursów i dużo nagród 🎉 Pozdrawiam ekipę TCC
