In all honesty, the answer is YES! Both the language and knowledge of the spiritual world make the difference. I'm well familiar with both practices.

Iboru iboya ibocheche. I just made the transition from lukumi to traditional. It’s been about 5 months now and I can definitely tell the difference.

This is not an Ifa question it's an Òrìsà question, but since you know about Candomble. I've been wondering: In Nigeria Yemoja is seen primarily as a river Òrìsà, but in Cuba Yemaya became known an the Ocean spirit. Also in Candomble it seems Yemanjá became known as an Ocean spirit. I'm wondering if, historically, Lukumí and Candomble people communicated with each other to exchange that idea, or whether they independently came to the same/similar conclusion? Any thoughts?

Yemoo + Eja = yemoja, Yemoo was the wife of obatala, eja is catfish, mother of catfish, fishes, olokun in oyo is also female so in the diaspora she became three different orisha in one. But they are all separate, only Yemoo’s cult is obscure and not practiced as much separately. Yemoja was a human woman

Most of the African slaves in the middle passage went through Brazil as a major port.

Yemonja was either conflated with olokun or a ocean nkisi

what happens to the Orishas that you received when you got intimidated into the Afro-Cuban Ifa after you transitioned to the traditional Afrikan Ifa? (Eshu, Egun, Ochosi, Osun….) Can someone practice both Santeria and Afrikan Ifa?

Afa works with Vodun, ifa works with orisha

@monroerodriguez IFA is called AFA by the Igbo, who learned IFA from the Yoruba. They're neighbours in Nigeria.

Neither does Santeria. They are separate cults
