What started as a small way to combat the massive problem of food waste in this country has turned into a big business. Start-ups are now selling funky-looking fruits and vegetables that would have been thrown away by delivering them to customers' doorsteps at a fraction of the cost. Kenneth Craig reports.

This is my story about perfectly round beef tomatoes from south florida truck farms A outdoor farmers market that I shopped at least once a week in Tampa Fl and knew the employes that worked there, they told me that all the tomatoes are check for roundness because shoppers will not buy them if they are not, I watched a customer picking up many tomatoes that were round and trying to chose the roundest of the round, I approached her and ask what she was going to do with the tomatoes when she got home, her reply was -- cut them up and use them in salads "DUH"

I'm not concerned about getting the straightest carrot, the roundest apple, or even minor skin defects. If it is not moldy, or broken open, I'll likely purchase it anyway. I have a paring knife to take care of minor defects.

We use a couple of these including hungry Harvest and imperfect produce and they're both great services. Makes feeding my bunnies easier, too!!

Since we throw out most of that, yes. Personally i think we should just Ship that stuff to Inpiverished countries, let them have it for their poor and needy. Like a Worldwide Food Pantry.

We have poor and needy in every county in America. We don't have to ship it anywhere. Donate it to the food bank.

There are a few drawbacks, 1. is their packaging. Way too much cardboard. If you don't have facilities in your area you have heavy boxes to throw away. Not the best for the environment. 2. These vegetables and fruits are just thrown into the box, and they get bruised, broken, and scratches that causes mold. They just don't last as long once you receive them. And 3. 'Imperfect' fruits and vegetables ARE NOT just thrown away. They are sold to make baby foods, juices, preserves,, and sold to other farmers for animal feed. And I have personally found that these boxes are just not worth it compared to my local stores.. but hey try it yourself. I think you will agree with many of us.

1:40 I didn't know you could eat raw cauliflower , plus I've never seen that 1:25 take place in a supermarket. Must be a American thing having wet fruit. Looks nice though

00:01:25 actually makes most produce go bad faster, however it apparently also makes them sell faster because it looks fresher (even though i personally doubt that).

Here in the UK I think it would be a tripping hazard having a hosepipe on the floor, plus the floor must get wet, so it would never be here.

i think it's just ridiculous how much food we waste then turn around and question why millions of people around the globe are suffering from starvation and illnesses born from malnutrition. my god if you don't want something, give it to someone who will benefit from it!
