Simply having access to these historically important games is awesome, although the reality is they haven’t aged well. Only for the most ardent collectors with deep pockets.

⚔️I played Valis 3 back in my youth, and liked it quite a lot. That said, all of these should have been on one cartridge for ~$40.

I think if this had the x68000 version of Valis II here, this would be a good buy, but let's not kid ourselves - Valis III Megadrive is the only game worth a damn here.

Consider you are getting a clean collection of Valis games that tell a great story. But really think carefully about price. They are stupid expensive if you have no nostalgia. Some of the games are historic footnotes and most gamers will tire of them, even with rewind and modern features. If you are over the age of 35 and played video games in the 80's and 90's then these games will tickle your fancy 100%.

Also I find it strange that the English version is 5.8 GB but the Japanese version is 1.5 GB. Considering that collection only comes with the JP versions of the original games with English subtitles, I wonder what makes it so bloated.

The prices for these collections is very high for such a niche series. I agree they should have just compiled everything into one single collection. Only the 1st collection + Valis IV is worth buying. The Genesis ports are actually pretty good too but besides that you're not getting your moneys worth if you spend for all three collections.

I'm sure its not worth it but I'm going to get it anyway. The Valis games are pure nostalgia for me. And I also have a mild interest in the japan only computers and their games.

Just bought this recently on the eShoo as it was on sale. I was just aiming for the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Valis III since that was the game that got me into the series. But like you said I wouldn’t buy these at full price. I could’ve even just buy this and Super Valis IV on their own but wanted to complete the current collection. Even have the collectors edition of Vol 1 but not 2. It’ll look weird because I plan to get the collectors edition of Vol 3.

Konami has shown how to do these collections right, especially with the Turtles one, sad that Edia didn't learn from them, I'd love to have these games (officially) but they are simply overpriced, a complete collection for 60 bucks, that I would find acceptable, even if it's JP only as I can probably use a translation app to play them.

I loved Valis growing up (mostly part 3), but there is no way I’m paying $130 for all three volumes. Absolutely ridiculous. All of these games should’ve been included in one single collection, with every version of part 1, part 2, etc all in one easy to find place. Who thought it was a good idea to scatter them across 3 volumes? Hard pass.

IMO Vol3 is the weakest entry of these collections. Still worth having due to collection reasons, but they should have added more, like the FC Valis or stuff like that.

No thanks. We don’t talk about that one. I rather just stick to the PC Engine CD versions of Valis 1 - 4 and leave it at that.

As a huge fan of the series, it's a great disappointment to have these collections as switch exclusives. Would love at least a digital release on Playstation Xbox and Pc for other gamers to enjoy. Nothing wrong with the switch but, not going to buy one just to enjoy my favorite retro games.

Everybody smart knows Valis 1-4 on the Turbo Grafx 16 CD is the way to go. 4 has never been translated. This collection sucks.

All’s fair in love and war. The PC-88, MSX and MSX2 versions I can live without. But the TG CD and Genesis versions of Valis? I can get behind those. The Famicom/NES version of Valis? I don’t know. Super Valis IV is whatever for me.

Bought and played all three collections on Switch physically. If you are a fan then yes. If you are curious then no. Its far too expensive across the three volumes. It always boils down to a simple premise: Perceived Value For Money. If you have any reservations about emulating for yourself (Legalities/complexities etc) then these are good enough. Perfectly serviceable but unremarkable. I strongly believe Edia should release Valis X for Volume 4. And no I am not joking. For better or worse: Preservation is king!

@@l.j.nguyen2586 Totally respect the bad taste and wrong vibes for Valis X. But again it's part of Valis. And even if its ret conned it still needs preservation. We really shouldn't play Valis X... Lol... However... For me: Preservation is simple premise. There are no selective arguments to be made. Bad taste or bad faith needs to be logged and retained so it can be studied and examined by future generations looking to move us forward as a species. Entertainment is always seen as a trivial matter especially with video games however it has affected us as a species and we have developed through strides in video game entertainment. Same with all media and history really... Famous quote: "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it" Do you want another Valis X to deal with? Lol...
