Machu Picchu is definitely a place worth visiting, it's one of the most beautiful places in the world, its architecture is unique and it doesn't matter visiting it in rainy or clear times, although the latter one can witness the views around it

I totally agree! The uniqueness and the history and architecture make it worth a visit no matter the climate 💯

You finally got your up close and personal with the llamas. That was incredible. Love the shirt. Very cool 😎 They are beautiful and humble creatures. I could see you settling down one day in South America and starting a llama rescue opened to the public. I did not know that it had been abandoned and undiscovered by the Spanish. I am wondering if the afternoon visits are booked first because there is more of a chance that the sun will burn off the low clouds. Not sure how that works. Look forward to your next visit Alina.

Definitely a highlight of the Peru trip to get so close to the llamas 😍 I thought the shirt was a good match for that special occasion 😁 I don’t know if in general the weather might be better in the afternoon. On that day it was cloudy all day even though a bit better in the afternoon but it never cleared up 🥲 But it is possible that this is a reason for the fully booked afternoon hours.

An interesting video highlighting how much better value we were afforded during a reasonably fair weather visit just before Christmas 2001. The numbers of tourists were down post-9/11 and the end of the Shining Path terrorist threat plus the weather was clear enough to climb to the top of the Huayna Picchu peak for the other classic view of the site and surroundings. For folks with the opportunity and wherewithal to plan a visit sometime - plan to go Yesterday! Today there will be more crowds and restrictions plus it will be much more expensive. Tomorrow some lunatic may have decided to blow it all up! (Shades of Palmyra and the Buddhas of Bamiyan!)

Hi Sacsayhuaman is almost intact because the huge granite stones where to heavy to move by the Spanish ….during their 300 year reign. How is it possible that technology only catched up in the 20thcentury with the invention of heavy lifting machine cranes? ….nowadays scientists from America and Europe believe those are really concrete blocks casted in moulds that’s why they fit perfectly, I am talking of the superior megalithic portions you find in all Inca complexes, 10-20% is megalithic and 80% quite rudimentary stone work with crude smaller rocks that people can lift easily, why didn’t the Incas produce the same quality stone work in their buildings ? …the difference between both constructive methods is very notorious to the human eye. They look as if constructed by 2 diferent civilizations, maybe the Incas stumbled across these megaliths and built on top and around them ? …..like you see across the world in many other cultures and nations. In Cusco town you see many buildings with megalithic foundations and Spanish construction on top, why couldn’t the Incas have done the same ?….the guides in Cusco don’t like talking about this subject and don’t explain why of the 2 tremendous difference in building technology, they can’t explain even today how these masive megalithic walls where built, nobody knows really it’s a big mistery.
