The only beautiful part of Wakefield is the countryside, shiny buildings that nobody asked for do not make a town, the tolerance of crime and depravity does and Wakefield excels at tolerance.

Sorry, a once thriving city has been turned into a succession of empty shops, coffee shops galore and and no market, the people of Wakefield deserve better and have been totally let down by the Council, the lady Councillor that likes to get her picture in the press is totally deluded. Promises said but never followed up.

@@carolnicoll9988 in case my comments sarcastic end was too vague, let me totally agree with you. I once crashed a council party in the cathedral, sshhh! They were literally congratulating themselves on turning the Xmas lights on, mad thing is the party will have cost at least 4 times more than the lights. Wakefield is a mess, and if you Google Wakefield issues you will see why, endless stories of failing services after they gutted the town with the giant bus shelter they call trinity walk and the now empty breeze block they called the new market house which really was in reality the death of the market, and that eyesore of a museum, that as with the "market house" I call a breeze block in a dirty puddle. Most of the new buildings have been mostly empty since they were built, the new train station just created another husk by leaving the old one in disrepair. The issues with Wakefield are countless. And that's before mentioning the drug addicts and illegal immigrants (Wakefield is a sanctuary city afterall) taking over the city centre.

@@BabsicalsCity I'm afraid the town centre is not beautiful, it is absolutely filthy, derelict shops full of pigeons and rats, homeless living in the shop doorways while Illegal immigrants live in luxury in hotels, Immigrants on the Cathedral steps drunk and insulting girls walking past while the police stand and watch. If I did that I would be arrested. Beggars everywhere drunk and abusive. Leeds has a market, Barnsley has a market. Tell me one thing in the town centre that would attract a family to spend a day here, I'm Wakefield born and bred and cannot think of one.

Having lived in Wajefield most of my life, I can honestly say that this video is not showing the real city. Take a walk around see the homeless people in empty shop doorways, and there are plenty of empty shops, see the drunks gathering on seats just below Boots. The "Hotel" at the bottom of the Springs. From being a thriving market town (the large open market long gone) we are reduced to a town of derelict buildings and empty shops a large shopping centre, The Ridings, again once full of shops now mostly empty. Getting in and out of town by car is a nightmare due to the road system, as for buses, well!! The Council has a lot to answer for.

Completely agree, this video is a fantasy, every vulnerable person I know is terrified of going into the town centre because of druggies and gangs.

Wakefield has steadily gone into decline , what once was a thriving City has become a place full of Charity Shops, Vape Shops. Once a place that people travelled far and wide for the Nightlife has become a shadow of its past. The Bus Station regularly floods when it rains and has been that way since it opened , along with a roof that lets in the rain and it was that way on opening day. You see regularly people begging and drug taking as well as dealing openly in the day and night and this appears to be on the increase. Rents are expensive when compared to nearby Barnsley and I do not see this improving in the near future.

Having lived in Wakey all my life (some 60 years) I'm sad to say it has very much declined since the Council knocked the Market House Down and built Trinity Walk. Maybe they could have spent the money on refurbing it instead? It was always busy, you hardly saw an empty stall. Yes Wakey had a great Night life on a weekend, Monday Nights 10p a Pint at Rooftops, Cassanovas and Central Parks all joined into one at late night/mornings. Plenty of Puds, a great Westgate Run to have a go at. More nightclubs than you could shake a stick at back then, when you could afford to go out both Friday and Saturdays. Now loads of Shops and Pubs closed. It seems to be all Coffe shops, Hair & Nail, Vapes places, Galleries. They built a new Market House and I beleive that's being knocked down. A failure by the Council. Still It's my Home Town, always will be. I'm a Proud Wakey Lad Born & Bred.

@@BabsicalsCity I ought to add that back when I was a kid there was really one Supermarket, Hillards. For the young 'uns reading this, if you walk past the door of the Bus Station towards where the Coach pickup is, there's a ramp and car park to your left, that is where Hillards was. Providence Street, I beleive Tescos or Asda wasn't that far behind comint to the City centre. Now, there's Supermarkets and Mini Supermarkets all over the place. Plus there is on-line shopping. This hasn't helped Wakfield and other inner Towns and Cities at all.

Erm i would love to know what part of wakefield you live in because i travel wakefield often and its all a shit hole. Even the 'better' areas are getting worse by the day. Kids stealing old peoples walking frames. Smashing windows. Setting fires. Even places that are supposed to be pretty are getting destroyed. Pugneys country park. Wrenthorpe park, sandal castle all used to be nice areas and are now littered with scum that let the area down

I have lived in wakefield my whole life, it is a depressing, miserable place to live, and every single social ill that exists in britain exists in wakefield. Wakefiepd has been failed for decades by its weak council leaders and the fact that it relies on the comically bad west yorkshire police to keep it safe, as much money as they spend on pointless new buildings the crime and social rot never improves. If you enjoy life, stay away from this sesspit and the gangs and drug addicts that run it, not one single public service in wakefield is functioning even on its minimal need.

Yeah even after watching this video im still sticking with my original answer its horrible. You stuck to the main top of town westgate side and even that is awful. Have you seen the moat around the prison? Filled with rubbish and trolleys. You didnt go down to kirkgate where its all abandoned and looks like a ghost town. For every place you have shown i can point out 5 horrid things within a spitting distance. Like you never showed the beauty of hepworth weir. And the drunks that sit beside it all day littering. Or further towards st micheals church where it gets horrid again. You only filmed the 'nice' bits

You have a odd view of wakefield and spent a lot of time on the rail station. If you had been filming like that when I was one of the duty managers I would have asked you what you where doing ?? I have lived in wakefield for over 30 years and it has gone down due to loss of industries mills mines and due to mismanaged plans for the city thinking that we all like the arts building the Hepworth with nothing to do when you come out after your visit the town a long way off very few good restaurants (not one Chinese restaurant in the centre) and begging what a pity it used to be a good place.

Wakefield is a dying city run by twats who like shiny new buildings that end up empty for years at the cost of the people who live there, check the news, Wakefield social care got took over by the government because of systemic failings, West Yorkshire police are a joke, and the council are running the town into bankruptcy. We are also surrounded like a ocean by the towns where the rape gangs operated while being a sanctuary city with three large illegal immigrant hotels at least within a three mile radius of the city centre. Wakefield is a meme of everything wrong with the UK, with depravation everywhere, especially the old mining villages that get ignored and left to rot on the principle of being white working class neighbourhoods.
