I had my first experience really skating with a rollerblader a couple weekends ago. We were the only two in the park so we just seshed together. I pulled up after and they were hitting the rail, thought I’d hop on it and I just shot out. Asked if it was waxed up, they said yes and kind of explained everything to me, I just said cool and approached obstacles a little slower. We had a rad time. I don’t really get the divide if I’m honest. Me and the blader I was riding with were hyping each other up, pushing each other, and stoked for each other.

Thanks for reaching outside our community, we need a lot more of that. There's a bigger problem than waxing or not waxing surfaces, and that's not cleaning surfaces before waxing. If a surface has been waxed a lot, it builds up a thick layer of black dried on wax that doesn't slide well. That causes people to add more wax to get it to slide, which creates more wax build up which slows it down even more. Repeat over and over. I think the build up is less problematic for metal trucks than plastic soul plates. I carry a plastic / metal scraper so I can clean up gunked up surfaces before putting more wax on. That's often enough to make the surface grind better.
@mikeobedoza8 ай бұрын
Ha I never take the time to actually clean it. I’m part of the problem and just put more wax on it hoping i can grind it away. 😅

Anyway some skateboarder complained and now it's a skatepark for skateboarders only lol. Nevermind. Skateboarders typically only grind/slide like maybe 2ft, whereas in-line grinds are meant to be as long as possible. So yeah they don’t need much wax at all. I usually kinda read the room and see who’s using what before I wax it. And having razors makes it easy to slide with only a quick layer of wax.

Nice video Mike 🤘I grew up skating with Skateboarders and I never really waxed anything that wasn't a concrete ledge. I've never been a massive fan of wax at the skate parks. The trouble is to many bladers turn up to skateparks and expect to slide super far straight off and not actually warm up to the conditions. I'm not against wax BUT the amount of times i've been at a Park having a session in the bowl or on the mini having not waxed it, and still grinding the length of the coping then some other bladers turn up and before they even try the coping wax it A LOT and it becomes just crazy fast. For me its always been about good speed and a good technique then add a bit of wax on top of it.

I think is just about skatepark etiquette, i hate skateboarders because of how they ride the park as mentioned by your guests. @DirtComplex8 ай бұрын
50/50 grind on a skateboard is like rolling your topsides. Ofcourse you're going to slide longer. 😂 On a more serious note, skate board trucks are rounded so there is minimal contact with the grind surface. In contrast the whole side of a rollerblade frame (about 10" long) PLUS the soul plate is contacting the grind surface. A lot more friction needs to be overcome on soul based grinds.

I think the animosity between bladers & boarders differs from gen to gen & region to region. I'm from the early generation of bladers from NYC. From my observation, they took up more issue with us jacking their culture which I get but regardless of what your vessel is, it's a vagabond type lifestyle which nobody can claim as their own. But bladers still felt we needed our own identity which is what spawned that ridiculous raver type look with stove pipe Jnco jeans & big ass wallet chains. In NYC, skateboarders already had this preconceived notion of what a fruitbooter was...as if we were all androgynous fairies rocking spandex biker shorts which led them to believe that we were a bunch of suckers. Little did they know, for the most part, it was just a bunch of street kids & thugs on blades that would f**k you up. Bare in mind, sk8boarders weren't in their cool kid trendy phase yet. They were still considered outcasts so they had a chip on their shoulders coming into it. It's been like 3 decades now & we're still here. I think we've earned our spot at the table & I'd like to think that they've come to acknowledge that.

The thing is wax is ok who doesn’t like to bust a 25 foot grind but it’s CANDLE wax that is the problem because it melts at a lower temperature than skate wax or gulf wax and then gets on the wheels and then you’re just turning and boom slip out. So please use real skate wax or gulf n not candles. You said the thing about concussion well I got one at mariposa n it was candle wax on the wheels was having fun doing long grinds thinking Dammn this is sick and then after a while I just did a kick turn and boom wheel slipped out. again please stay away from candle wax because the melting factor is the problem. I’ve had skateboarders start bitching me out for waxing one obstacle at parks before. It’s happened multiple times to me now and every time it was a skater who honestly just sucked. So in my experience it’s always been the skateboarders who can’t even stay on the rail or coping longer than 2 ft anyways. They suck at skating and are professional complainers. Idc I wax whatever I want And would love to see them try something. Also it’s a grind your SUPPOSED to slide so be ready! Nyjah Huston recently came out and said if your skating it, it should be waxed to the max cuz it’s a grind so be ready to slide! And I completely agree. More wax the better for both bladers and skaters!
