I get so frustrated with Annie Leibovitz's books. The photography is great, but they are presented so woefully, and it was one of the major lessons I learnt when I created my book. The problem is, the book is in portrait form but the majority of images seem to be shot in a landscape, so we have so many images split over 2 pages and this takes away so much from the images. It is so simple to change the format, and it makes such a dramatic difference with how the images look.

I understand where you’re coming from! Annie Leibovitz’s photography is undeniably brilliant, but it can be frustrating when the presentation doesn’t do the work justice. Splitting landscape images over two pages can detract from their impact, especially when the format of the book could have been adapted to better suit the content. It’s great that you learned from this when creating your own photography book. Paying attention to layout and format is so important!
