Hi, great insightful reviews. I’m seriously contemplating between these two. I’m buying a digital piano for both to practice for abrsm exams( restarting/relearning piano from early grades) as well as for my interest in music arrangement. While the fp 30x offers more superior piano action, the dgx offers more superior music arrangement tools/tones. Can music arranging softwares such as ableton, garrage band etc., compensate the lack of tones on the fp30x, or does the piano action on the dgx sufficient for piano exam practice?

Hi 🙂 I Like my Roland FP 30 x very much because the Key Action and the Piano Sound is very good. I think it depends on what you want to do ...I want to play and practice the Piano...I am not so into Keyboard / E Piano / rhythms etc 🙂 so I love my Roland FP 30 x ...😉. For others who want to change tones and arrange or whatever there would be better options. Thank you for your videos 👍🎹🎼🎶

Great review! Now we have the story on both pianos! I knew the DGX had lots of menu/configuration functions, but its much more extensive than I thought. Looks like you could spend weeks just messing with microphone and pedal settings! What a great value for $799! Now if we can just get them to show up in USA....

As was apparent in the previous look at these instruments, they are aimed at different markets, the piano market and the arranger market. But Yamaha have provided an instrument with a significant difference to the usual arranger instrument - an 88-note keyboard. So it appeals to the user who wishes a full piano along with the arranger features and I think this is a great move by Yamaha. While we may have wished for a slightly better piano, greater power in the amplification and more versatile connections in the DGX-670, the total balance of features makes for a very appealing instrument. Being a pianist who also enjoys arranger capabilities, if I was in the market for a new instrument I would head for the Yamaha without hesitation as in some ways it even challenges the more expensive (and older) PSR-SX600.

Indeed the 670 will cannibalize the SX600 and P125 sales.

It was good of you to accommodate your viewers’ wish to see these two instruments compared. As you said from the outset: it’s much like comparing apples to oranges. I am in the market for a new piano. To that end, I have watched many reviews. I am impressed with both Roland and Yamaha. I rented a Roland FP10 for a month. It was a bit short on features but the key action and bright grand piano sound are delightful. I’m currently renting a Yamaha P125 for a month. More features, better app and nice key action along with a solid grand piano sound. Probably better value overall than the Roland. However several reviews of the DGX670 have convinced me that I can enjoy both solid piano sound with a realistic acoustic piano touch along with myriad features that can help enhance my overall music experience. This review helps confirm that the DGX670 is for me. In fact, I ordered one a couple of weeks ago!

I would like to ask you one question about the Yamaha DGX 670, which might be interesting for others also: the option to connect this specific Yamaha microphone to the piano is a really important feature for me. Is the voice also recordable to the sequencer recorder.? I mean: Just like any other sound from the piano? I think so and I hope so. It would not be a deal-break argument for me, but would be super useful, as I have the idea to record things with voice and later be able to send that file as mp3 or whatever format to family and friends. Great comparison, Jeremy. This reasons make my Yammy heart happy😅. The Roland f30x piano centered is very good, but the usefull of DGX really combines arranger functionalitys, and all of a songwriter, arranger, or other musicians needs, incluided the special voice microphone, great styles, organic voices, dedicated buttons, easy memory usb use, and the beautifull screen is better to use than keys combinations, or phones apps. The Dgx speakers isn't so powerfull but his sound are very rich with realistic articulations, DSP, and other parameters, & capabilitys, IMO. Something not mentioned in this video is that the DGX 670 does not have proper right and left outputs. Because of this and the weight which is almost 50 pounds this piano is more useful at home. The other thing is the old GHS action and sound which I believe is the same as the Yamaha P125. Yes this DGX 670 is amazing with all of its functions. But if you compare the default piano sound to the Roland FP30x the Roland is better both with sound and action. So it really depends where your emphasis is. If you want an all around home arranger with tons of features then the Yamaha is best. If you are happy with 183 sounds and having to use an app does not bother you then the Roland is best. I had a DGX 660 and loved the functionality. But the piano sound to me left a lot to be desired.

Hi Jeremy. Great video as always. I had a doubt. Hope you can help me with it. I have a Yamaha PSR SX900. And I live in an average sized apartment in India. I have been playing Keyboard for the past 11 years but because of the tight space, I can't even think of buying a Piano. But after learning more and more over the years, I have developed a love for the Piano sound. And therefore, I want to learn the Piano, but as I said earlier, because of the limited space, I can't even think of buying an actual Grand Piano, also I sadly don't have the funds for it. So a digital piano is what I need to go for. Having played on Yamaha Keyboards forever, I really appreciate the sounds they have on them. But speaking of a Piano, the actual action of the keys is even more important to practice. I'm therefore confused which model to go for (not just between the ones you demonstrated in today's video, but in general). Already having an Arranger Keyboard, buying the likes of the DGX Series won't be quite benefecial for me as the PSR SX900 is already way better than the Digital Pianos in those regards. I just need something with a good sound and a good action which is portable too so that if I ever need to take it for a gig or something, I can. Therefore, can you kindly suggest me a good Digital Piano keeping my requirements in mind? (P. S. I won't be buying it immediately, I don't have much funds for it. However, if all goes well, then I might buy it by the end of this year or so. So if there's some better model coming out later this year, kindly keep that in mind. Also, after having seen a lot of videos, I now know that the availability and prices of Keyboards vary from region to region. I live in India, so kindly keep that in mind too.) Your help and suggestions would really be appreciated Sir.

Hi Jeremy, I am a complete beginner to piano and I have only messed around with a few virtual keyboards, one cheaper keyboard which a family member owns and apps (e.g. using a laptop keyboard with a virtual audio cable to play a virtual keyboards' notes into flowkey online). So, I have watched your DGX-670 and FP-30X videos (both '14 reasons' videos and the 'why the DGX-670 crushes the competition' video) and I am unfortunately still unsure as to which keyboard I should ultimately purchase. I would personally like to perform classical pieces by the well-known composers at home. Would spending the extra money to purchase a real piano be worth it as compared to either the DGX-670 or FP-30X? Of course I realise that even the cheapest real pianos would be more money than a keyboard, however what would your opinion be regarding a beginner like myself? I was told that a keyboard is a better learning tool potentially for beginners such as myself compared to using a real piano, due to the functionality provided via the electronics in a keyboard such as the learning apps etcetera. Would you agree? Furthermore, I noticed the nice three-sensor ivory-style keyboard and the Bluetooth Wireless MIDI (I believe) on the FP30-X, does the DGX-670 not have a Bluetooth MIDI functionality? I also use an Android mobile phone and a Windows and OS X laptop, so seeing iOS mobile apps does worry me as there is no mention of any Android apps. Would the MIDI functionality fix this? For example, can I use flowkey on my Android mobile or Windows or OS X laptop with the MIDI cable and not have any issues? Do the two-sensor keys on the DGX-670 actually make that much difference compared to the three-sensor keys on the FP-30X? You mentioned doing a riff (maybe I used the wrong term, my apologies, it was where you quickly alternate keys and the depression required on the keys is less on the FP-30X) and I wonder therefore as a beginner whether I would worry about this? I ask really from the standpoint of functionality and future-proofing. Are the DGX-670 keyboards keys really that antiquated? I just want to play classical music well, however I like the display on the DGX-670. I probably would not use all the extra 'mixing features' if I may call them that on the DGX-670 however a display makes a nice difference. Ultimately I just wish to learn how to play the piano well using an app on my Android mobile or Windows or OS X laptop without issue and not discover that I have made a mistake and a certain feature is missing etcetera. Lastly, could you please tell me whether the DGX-670 and FP-30X have the ability to use the amazing virtualizers that display the keys / notes / tones in a waterfall fashion and whether I could use the keyboard to enter notes into a musical program to create sheet music? I have seen KZbinrs create sheet music really quickly (like '10 second, 5 minutes, 1 hour, 10 hours' style compilation videos) and it looks as though notes can be entered via a keyboard or is this strictly done via the laptop / desktop keyboard? It would be great if I could for example play Ode to Joy (as a basic example) while using a MIDI cable or Bluetooth MIDI functionality and the notes would appear in the software on a laptop or computer. Is this what people mean by DAW software? Would MIDI functionality let me achieve this? So many questions and so much purchasing-anxiety. Thank you so very much! Subscribed! Your cat is cool too!

Can you make a video how to fix not working key in Yamaha E463 plss
@dd376ers3 жыл бұрын
Hello again Jeremy! I've seen several of your videos now, all super helpful! Arguably the most important advice I seek from you: Which of these two pianos do you think would work better for a pianist (that is my primary training) and visual media composer who is looking to integrate an excellent-feeling 88-key keyboard into their home studio setup with Logic Pro X? I currently have the Yamaha DGX 660, and love the exploration opportunities with all of its features and onboard voices / rhythm styles, but I do worry that I won't use them as much. I have an extensive library of high quality samples (Native Instruments, CineSamples, etc.) on my main music rig that I would likely prefer to use, even though the DGX 670 suite of sounds looks very appealing. Also, I desperately need a keyboard solution that can be used both as a main unit coupled with Logic Pro at home, and also can reasonably be moved to band practice at a friend's house nearby and occasionally music gigs. I know how heavy the DGX 660 (and 670) is, and as you've said, there's really no moving it. However, is the Roland FP-30X truly that much easier to move? Sorry for the long sentences and potentially confusing questions haha, here are my three main asks: 1.) Which piano do you think would work better when used with the DAW Logic Pro X? (I know you also mentioned the Roland has Bluetooth and Bluetooth MIDI capabilities, how does the latter work with latency and such?) 2.) Which piano would be better to gig with and use for practice with my bandmates (so having to move it frequently; I assume this is the Roland but just want to be sure haha!) 3.) Which piano has a better solution for recording its output (so for example, if I wanted to capture the amazing onboard piano / EPiano samples of either the DGX 670 or FP-30X) into a DAW like Logic Pro? Sorry again for the length here, just wanted to make sure I covered everything and provided some background info. Thank you Jeremy!!

Can the Yamaha DGX 670 be sampled? Can the Yamaha DGX 670 record music and sound with a mic? Please help, brother

The Yamaha dgx-670 is good, but I am sorry to break it to you Jeremy, it just can’t blow away the competition yet since , it just doesn’t feel like a real grand piano without escapement and triple sensors. It’s like yamaha is trying to selll you a Ferrari with a lawnmower engine under the hood. =[

Does the 670 have midi and audio over the usb port like the 30x and Yamaha p 125?. The 670 doesn't have l and r audio outputs either like the 30x or p125.
@JeremySee3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the DGX-670 can transmit & receive MIDI & digital audio via USB.

Jeremy has already stated that the fp-30x has the most piano-like feel. That said, people are making very nice music with the DGX-670. Look for other videos on KZbin.

The Roland piano sound is absolutely of higher quality than Yamaha one. Besides Dgx670 is sold at a too much price, about my opinion.

You mention that the DGX 670 will work only with a specific type of microphone. You show only the Yamaha Microphone. What microphone characteristics should I look for? I have another Yamaha unit with a microphone input that doesn't work with an inexpensive microphone and more details about this would be useful.

It's shipping. I bought mine retail. As with any new products, demand outstrips supply.

@@JeremySee It hasn't hit the US yet. Must still be in transit. The only ones I know of over here are units distributed for promotional purposes. No buyers have them as of today's date. Also U.S. west coast ports were backlogged due to the pandemic. More ships than berths to unload them.

These videos send a mixed message. 2 weeks ago the title was "Is the Roland FP-30X better than the Yamaha DGX-670'", and then before it was "Why Yamaha DGX-760 crushes the competition". These videos seem fueled by sponsors and send mixed messages as at least these 2 new pianos are compared over and over. To say the DGX-670 crushes the competition, then have a list of dislikes against it compared to the FP-30x, doesn't show that it's crushing competition. It's click-bait at best in attempts to seed the market with content for these piano manufacturers.

@@JeremySee thanks, I've seen that already. But still wanna see which one is better of the other 2 apples.

Hello, me again. I just want to be reassured. I have a PSR-E463 and a Casio CTX5000. I plan to trade my E463 for the DGX 670 in a couple of weeks. Since we had a lot of videos on EX 20, FP 30X, and the like. Is the DGX670 still the best buy in that line (1000. to 1500. Canadian dollard) today. Il will probably be my last buy (80 years), so I'd like to confirm your opinion. As I said before, it's only for playalong, no composition and synths. Many thanks, Jeremy. You're our first source from your part ot the worls. JP

To me, the bottom line is the DGX-670 is for people who want broad but AFFORDABLE fun while the Roland is for people who need something they can travel with or have very limited space. DGX pianos, in general, are excellent electronic pianos for family and student use as well as limited professional use. To borrow a term from the camcorder world, the DGX a great "pro-sumer" piano.
@JoeLinux20003 жыл бұрын
Very good observation.

What a pity. In my country, the DGX-670 costs 1200 US dollars. And the FP-30x - 750 US dollars. It's a shame, though.

Hi Jeremy thank you for the amazing review. I’m quite newbie in piano playing. I’m really into acoustic piano and solo singing along the piano music. Currently confused about what to purchase for a beginner like me. I have two big options; DGX 670 or P-125 piano. Which one of these two would you recommend for me?

Yeah, because it just depends what you value more, better key action nearly like in a real acoustic piano on Roland FP-30X or better arranger features found on Yamaha DGX-670. ;) XD

@JeremySee3 жыл бұрын
Simply because it takes hours to do it and few people watch. Simple supply and demand.
@JoeLinux20003 жыл бұрын
True, but some of the voice are excellent, and if you look for the 660 you will learn that some of the voices are sound effects like a helicopter. I happened to like that.
@takakazushi67033 жыл бұрын
I’m kind of surprised that Yamaha doesn’t put a brief sample of each “voice“ on their website for their various piano models. Seems like it would make a lot of sense for those interested in what all 600+ voices sound like. Guess their philosophy is more “you’re gonna have to buy it to find out“… No apologies to Nancy Pelosi.
