Thank you! The vacuum screaming is causing difficulties in getting our children to do this chore. Really, Thank You!

Thank you so much! I have a Dyson DC40 that has faithfully served me for many years, and I couldn’t figure out this one issue. I don't know what other people are complaining about. I’ve had Dysons for well over a decade, and they’ve all been stellar. They're easy to fix too.

What I did to mine was soak it in oxyclean for 15 minutes only and not go overboard. It lifts the carbon off the filter. Then I thoroughly rinsed it. After that I used a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide for a few hours. Rinsed that out thoroughly in cold water. Next to dry I put it on a vent to let it air dry and then out in the sun to dry further and with a can of compressed air the rest of the debris dropped out. Filter is like new again. I always keep a few secondary filters around as well

Brilliant! Have a louder than loud noise at the first turn on of my Dyson DC66 animal and then the usual noise level after about a minute of running. Just inspected the filter as per your video inside the ball frame and indeed it is dirty as ever. Will order a replacement asap from Amazon. Thanks so much for making this video!!

Just a quick follow up. Received the replacement ball filters (Amazon) yesterday. Our Dyson Animal (DC66) is back to the factory noise level and swear that the suction level has improved. Our unit is at least 10 years old and we failed to inspect / wash this filter. In watching other videos, they noted that this filter can be washed but suspecting we went past the expiration date to allow this filter to be washed. Did attempt to wash this ball filter but could not restore it back to white. We had dark spots on the inside of the filter. The key take away here is - if the filter is anything but white in color - just replace it!! You and your Dyson will love the new filter. Thanks again for this great video.

Thank you SO much! This was extremely informative and helped me fix my Dyson.

a good way to clean the filter is to put it in the washing machine on a quick wash. I do it with the filters that sit in the cyclone on the DC41s but I don't do it with the post motor filters because I feel like they might dissolve. But the Pre filter and the filters on the older hand held models that go between the motor and the cyclone come out like new

Hi. I was wondering if old dirty filters would cause the ball area to get hot to the touch also? I just ordered new filters. Always washed them, but never replaced.

My Dyson DC39 Canister is making this exact sound! But I don’t think the ball comes apart like in your video. Do you know if it be in the cyclone canister instead?
@richardsvacuumcenter4 ай бұрын
The ball does come apart but the hepa filter is “lifetime” I’m not sure if they make the filters available.
@danthedysonguy60384 жыл бұрын
That happened to me, it was just the post motor filter

I just put my filters back after rinsing and letting dry for a long time. My Dyson UP13 squeals when I use the attachment for my stairs not when vacuuming normally. Do you think it is still this filter on the ball?
@richardsvacuumcenter Жыл бұрын
Probably. I would recommend replacing it with a new one.

Replaced mine just now and the whine continues. Pressing on it in particular ways reduces the whine, the air passing the rubber gasket is still a problem.
@richardsvacuumcenter Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. Was the filter a genuine dyson filter or a replacement?
@louisliu5638 Жыл бұрын
@@richardsvacuumcenter tips note that a damaged gasket MIGHT be one problem. On our pumps and chem. feeds I'd make sure there are no nicks on the O ring gasket, AND use silica lube (not much( on my finger and feel for the nicks, just like I did when diving.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work for me. I’m using a brand new filter! Seems to make the noise whenever the spinner brush is turned on
@richardsvacuumcenter2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm i would have to guess then that maybe the bearings in your brush motor are going out due to water getting in somehow…just a guess though

My DC 25 actually makes a whiny/howl when I turn it off. Has done it for years. Any suggestions?
@richardsvacuumcenter3 жыл бұрын
same issue. replacing the hepa filter should correct that problem assuming latch assembly that keeps the filter tight is not broken.
@sparky66123 жыл бұрын
There is a simple solution to this howling or screaming filter on DC25. Basically what has happened is that the black rubber seal that surrounds the motor filter has flattened. The solution is to remove the black rubber seal and place it in a bowl of boiling hot water for a few minutes. Remove it and then stretch out the skirt of the seal to make it flare out more. You can even turn it inside out as if you are folding it back on itself. Do this all the way around the seal in order to make it fatter. You can use a little washing up liquid to make it easier to slide your thumb around it as you do it. One you have flared it out more give it a gentle dry and re-install. Repeat the process if it needs more flaring. No silicone grease needed. 😉

Mine does this but only after about 15 min of use and it started after I changed the filter up a new one. 🧐😫
@richardsvacuumcenter2 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Usually a new filter solves this issue. Somewhere you have a gasket leaking. Did you push on the filter once the noise started up again to confirm the leaking noise was coming from that filter?
@Ecksterphono Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the generic filters are finicky to put on and don't click all the way because the tabs aren't beveled enough. You may need to work the filter on and off a few times to get the filter to seat the gasket ring. If that doesn't work see if after you removed the old filter, that the ring gasket hasn't become dislodged or developed a tear after removal of the old filter due to possible sticking, because any tear or deep scratches of the ring gasket or seal can cause it to squeal or shreak. The new filter mating base could also be warped and might be defective. However if the filter and gasket isn't the issue, go a little further and remove the filter base plate with the 5 torx screwdriver. ( I think they're 8mm) check the gasket underneath for any leaks that could cause shreaking or squealing. If that checks out you may have bad contaminated motor bushings or a cracked filter base plate from removing the filter. Another thing to do is take some vegetable oil on your finger and just coat the ring gaskets with oil and then wipe with a disposable clean shop rag. Just a very very light film of oil can help with sealing. Bypass vacuum leak squealing can also come from small tears in the internal hose or the changeover valve hose or even cuts or splits in the changeover valve hose flanges. Sounds similar to vehicle engine intake manifold gaskets when they fail and causes squealing or shreaking.

It’s been forever since I commented and you replied but I’m back again haha. I ended up being given a different vacuum and the one I was having with issue with just got stuck in a closet to figure out another day. It is now that day 😂 I will check to see if it is even filter related and go from there! Thanks for the reply and also thank you to Eckehardt for your reply!
