But all of that changes when Mareep appeared in Gold and Silver, and all the gays in the world rallied after it. And I'm not gonna kidding. Its stats, move pool and typing were so niche then than it was some sort of revolution.

Pikachu is mother. You can’t start an entire trend without being mother. Zekrom I would say is at least looks around. It’s based on the concept of Yin which is femininity. It’s also fierce. While Watrel and Kilowattrel are rather simple birds, I think it’s healthy for the franchise to mix the normal with the esoteric. An indicator that no matter how far the series goes there will always just be an animal + element. Anyway, I hope we get flying or dragon next week!

Togedemaru is my favorite pokémon and I feel like it does well to represent girly pop. It has soft accents super cuddly but undoubtedly a pin cushion of a pokémon. I think the thing missing from this pokémon is a fact that the animation allows its thorns to appear as it jumps up and down playfully. It's more of an animation trope and the fact that it's literally a wrecking ball should allow it to be in the mother category.

14:41 I think Togedemaru’s kinda ehhh, because it’s also competing w Mimikyu, a quite literal Pikachu clone. Mimikyu has the name factor for one, “Mimic you”. It’s simple, it rolls off the tongue, the design echoes Pikachu, it’s got a fun lore reason why it appears as it does; Togedemaru just doesn’t have that. It’s got a 5 syllable name, which-let’s face it, most people clock out at 4 syllables, or shorter nicknames. Thanks for giving the Mareep line its due! Every single time I replay Gen II, there's a Mareep on my team. Mareep, Flaafy, and Ampharos each stand out so much that I feel like it's one of the best evolutionary lines in the series. Each of them has a unique color palette, but they share the same iconic tail and ear designs. That way, each Pokemon stands out without feeling out of place. It's such a joy to raise a Mareep through both of her evolutions. Fantastic design. Compare that to the Pawmi line. There's nothing that makes Pawmi's evolutions stand out. Each of them have the same color palette (just with slightly different shades), and the only design elements that change are her growing arms and hair. Is that really the best they could do for Electric/Fighting? There's no unique design features in Pawmo and Pawmot that would make you pick them over Pawmi. If the designers had played around with their color palettes or had a stronger design element they could remix, the line would be a lot more memorable. As it stands, I think Pawmi would be better off as a single-stage Pikaclone, tweaked a little to fit the Electric/Fighting type.

I think Togedemaru is a very interesting case because Gen 7 had so many heavy hitters and not only they got overshadowed like that but I think that the introduction of mother Mimikyu and their longevity on serving really put Togedemaru in the lower tier pika-clones. I think if Toge was in another generation, they would probably get more flowers.
