यह फिल्म सुपरहिट हो सकती थी मगर अमिताभ के विरोधीयों मसलन राजेश खन्ना और कुछ पत्रकारोंने दर्शक को भ्रमित करने की प्रयास कर दी, दिलिप कुमार ने अमिताभ को दवा दिया कहकर । और दर्शक भी हो न हो उनकी बातों मे आकर फिल्म देखना ही बन्द कर दी । लिहाजा फिल्म ने अपनी बजट ही कभर कर पायी और जितनी भी चली, वो अमिताभके कारण ही चली । वास्तवमे कानुनकी रक्षकवाले रोलके कारण ज्यादा लोगो ने दिलीप कुमार की रोलको सराहना की मगर पफरमेन्सवाइज अमिताभ ही भारी पडे । और दिलीप कुमार की ढलती इमेज के कारण ही बेस्ट एक्टर की एवार्ड दिया गया वरना एक ही फिल्मके दो कलाकार कहीं मेन रोल मे होते है और बेस्ट एक्टर के लिए नमनी भी हो जाते है ? यह जानकर भी नजरअन्दाज करनेवाले गधे ही जुरी मेम्बरकी कुर्सी पर बैठा था सायद उस वक्त ।

Both were playing their respective characters but yes, Dilip Kumar was successful in getting more sympathy. Ramesh Sippy and Salim Javed were under DK's influence so they accommodated the changes. Amitabh was upset with Ramesh Sippy over this. But DK was not an easy person to work with.

....shakti was an out n out big b sir movie n he dominated the whole movie n had the best one line memorable dialogues....dilip kumar sir was in support role....but unfortunately it was the first n last movie for them together....

No comparision between the two Dilip.sahab was a library of acting but Amitabh.calibre only a book in that library. The Hollywood actors acclaimed Dilipji as an artist par excellence unmatched by any Hollywood actor.Amitabh is only a shadow of Dilip sahab.

It was very wrong to give award to that old fart , it was pride for him to act with young man Amitabh but I guess the comity felt bad about old actor and gave him award to look good . He didn’t deserve that , it should have gone to Amitabh .
