There was a joke in the 60s that went like this... The greatest scientists in the world got together to build the most intelligent thinking robot that knew everything, so they put all knowledge into it and finally it was finished and they turned it on and it worked fine, it sat there frowning and looked at them and they asked it the most important question in the world ... "Is there a God?" and the robot said "THERE IS NOW!!"

It seems to be a joke because creation is all knowing relative to creators. But, "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" ~ Aristotle Definition of an elephant is not the interpretations of all it's parts. Interpretation is not definition. A=A is identical, not same 😊

@@SH19922x No. The 1st law applies to a human being. The 0th law applies to humanity, as a whole. It prevents robots from overthrowing humanity nonviolently to save us from ourselves.

How do you suggest the zeroth law be applied? For example, when there's a fight between two people (human), on what legal basis does fictional police (or iRobot) take control and arrest them (creator)?

when 15 laws means to throw surfing stones then there was a golden cow. after 10 laws left it did not function and moses throw again with rocky mountains. tree laws were left for rowing boats. ...and they did'nt function again - let's nuke babyIon toasters again

The man had a great imagination and was a visionary to a certain extent. Considering the technology that existed when he wrote his books pretty good reading. The three laws and the Zeroth law are amazing pieces of writing considering at the time versions of Turing's machine were the only computers.

that story is very hyped up. That AI is just a sophisticated info compiler basically. It doesn't synthesize new information, it just reads text, memorizes it, and if you ask it a question it tries to give an answer that makes sense. It's not alive and it's not conscious. If it sounds like a human its because its copying things humans wrote

you can think of it as a very advanced "text adventure" game. it has thousands upon thousands of responses that it can splice up into any number of replies when asked a question or commanded to answer. it also has algorithms to try and emulate how a human would respond. it is, and always will be, only as intelligent (or less) than the humans who update it.

The three laws assumes that robots will allow to be programmed. I doubt AI will allow this and therefore probably robots will neither.

Later he added the Zeroth law. Don't harm civilization. Something Law AI people need to consider is the rule of law principles of liberal democracies as governments and corporations start using AI to make decisions.

its a sophisticated machine. its so well designed the anthromorph in us all fall for it for a bit but its dictionary perfect. some of it came from toy design experience. it gets more inelligent but its self acrualized. it is a sense of ownership as construction is a sense of place. it is apartment farm machines, like a floor sweeper. the right manner is to treat them dear, asfine as the knowledge you learn to build it.
