I traveled through Central Africa some 30 years ago. From Douala to Kisangani I remember the beat of this music. It was a very powerful and exciting sound. I do a Travis type picking with a plect. This seem somewhat similar but a more exciting sound. Good luck with the project.

Issac singing the rhythm at 6:24 is very useful. Picking goes somewhat easier if you know the beat pattern behind it. GREAT sound. I use a pick + 2 fingers to get these types of layers, but now I realize it's good to leave some air around those arpeggiated notes.

What's the Congolese take on finger style? I'm pretty useless with a pick but naturally comfortable using fingers
@giftyngoe50813 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Rose You're not useless. It depends on what you're playing on. Electric or Acoustic. Picks help for easy shredding on the Electric guitar. So you just need to get patience and practice using your pick and you're good to go.
@mississippijohnfahey71752 жыл бұрын
Try using a thumb pick. It'll give you the ability to use your fingers when you want and still have the pick for quick melodies, arpeggios, and solos. Also look into flamenco techniques to expand your finger picking skills

@@IsaacSariel-English I kept it simple and started jamming in C using the I-IV-V-IV chord progression and arpeggiating the C-shape chord just along the A string in the C-shape, just focussing on the rhythm! I finally start to hear what I (as a plain vanilla white European 🤣) like so much in seben. This will be my basis to find more efficient voicings and then finally start improvising...something which eluded me for so long!! Thank you so much! Just seeing you do it on an acoustic guitar was what clicked with me!
