wtf? just 10 comments and barely 20k views? Where are all the people who want to write? She is one of the best ever and there is so much to learn from her. More people need to watch this.

I just finished reading five of her works, the latest being Violeta, The Japanese Lover, and In the Midst of Winter, which I thought was better written than The Japanese Lover and Violeta. Violeta has a lot of flaws in how the narrative unfolds. In interviews she states that the book is based on her mother's life. But then the character of Violeta also is based a lot on Allende's own life. She creates interesting characters but some of her more recent works lack structure and plot. In the Midst of Winter does have a plot but then the last two chapters are rather muddled and confusing. No one seems to edit her works and some errors really stand out. Her presses probably make a lot of money from the books she writes. Hence the Spanish press does not bother to edit the manuscript. Once the original in Spanish is published, the translations must adhere to the original. I have worked as an editor and I put in a lot of work and care into the manuscripts I edited. I worked closely with the writers who were in the early stages of their careers. I read Allende's work also with the eyes of an editor and am surprised at how flawed the end result is. The way her presses rush to get her books to print is no doubt the way the industry works with best sellers. No doubt she does do a lot of research but the end product is not as good as it could be. The structure of the narratives needs some attention. Yet she probably does not want anyone other than her mother and her family to give her feedback. This is quite problematic. She would be a better writer if she had not become the huge PERSONALITY and MONEY MAKER she Is today. Her early works were much better written than those she writes today. The cult of the personality has marred her overall production. Too bad. She is a very bright and intelligent woman who articulates her ideas and goals very well in the many interviews that she does every two years when she goes on the road to promote her latest publication
