I've known about this song for a good fair while, but I only now have gotten into the proper headspace to connect PARTS of it to my situation with my first ex in the past. I really cared about them, but I'm not a touchy-feely type person, and they were. I let them dictate what we did as a couple, even if I was uncomfortable with it, because I felt it was a "me problem" and "this is what love relationships are, so it's expected of you to accept it." Other people made me feel like it was my problem to solve with myself. I knew my ex long enough to at least be "comfortable with being uncomfortable" (doing new things relationship wise) so that's why I even decided to "do what's expected." Even though I wasn't touchy-feely so those things might've been a bit dry, I gave gifts and contacted them often. They wanted to be like me in many ways, and *I* brought out a good side of them that they were warry of. Eventually, I'm pretty sure they cheated on me because they brought up polyamory and shortly after they broke up with me. They would also later come to bring me harm in my last year of HS using 3rd parties. (they never really saw me in the halls apparently, because the next time they saw me directly as I walked by, they watched me the whole way as I passed while only acknowledging them in my peripherals. Evidently, I looked good lol) I built them up only for them to betray me twice. They had power over me at the time that I'm not completely sure they even knew the extent of it they had. I was young, ignorant, and in my first relationship. They didn't feed my desires, but I fed theirs. They used me to feed their emotional needs and wants to the point it was excessive. They would rant about sensitive stuff to me, but I wasn't allowed to do so with them (Cue "I'm not a therapist" .mp4). I also found out after I started dating them that they only ever approached me and became friends with me so they could date me. So that was great. They drew me in with friendship and just used me. They broke up with me, probably, because of the guilt of cheating. But the thing is, in reality, they were not what I needed. They were an experience I needed then, but they became "no longer what I need" long before the break up (even for a 6 month relationship. We were friends for about 2 years prior tho.). Today, the only thing I still miss was the friendship I had with them, not even the relationship at all. Despite their motive behind the friendship, they never really used me until there was the obligation of a relationship. I still know I shouldn't miss the friendship either, but I do and I can't change it.
