For those only just finding out about YMO because of ENA, I really have to insist you check them out! They are the Grandfathers of Japanese electronic music, but have been defining figures in electronic music since the 1970s. Today, you can see their deep influence on early Japanese video game composers, which in turn has influenced the world. Video game music sounds the way it does because of their pioneering work! I’d seriously put them along greats like the German group Kraftwerk. Much of it is beautiful, some of it may be tough to enjoy off the bat, but it’s important to ease yourself into it. I used to not like YMO, today they’re one of my favourite bands of all time.
