rob lockwood I don't know who HSMWorks is. Mastercam has provided me with software for many years so, that's who use and endorse. Thank you for the kind words. The whole idea is to show off so people can see what else is out there. If we keep doing "one ups man" with each other, we can show the world a better way to machine. I spend hours looking for cool stuff. There is ALWAYS something new to learn:)

Rob, the toolpath has been in Mastercam since X5. If you want to get technical, surfcam invented this motion over a decade ago. Great demo of large step down followed by step ups for finishing. The best way to cut.

Alvaro Gil​ really? The first instance ive seen was from Julian Todd and Martin Dunschen of Freesteel. They first sold the toolpath as a plugin for several CAM systems, eventually it turned into the basis for HSMWORKS.. Didn't realize it was in surfcam first. Good info.

It's all built in the tool path. It's pretty simple as far as programming goes. The tricks are knowing the "rules" of Dynamic Motion, the cans and cants and when's and when nots, and knowing where to get your starting parameters for your endmill properties, as far as feeds and speeds and radial step over and axial depth. Lastly knowing the machine condition, capabilities, and holder and workpiece rigidity.

Our 2016 brother Speedio s700x1 just arrived! We unboxed it and prepped for the install today! So excited, I love our brother tcr2a pallet changer, the s700 will be much faster!

I would also be interested in your chaining technique for your optirough toolpath. How did you get the tool not to retract when milling up the face?

well they at least seem to be the first developing the tech in 2002 and releasing true milling 2005. Don't remember when adaptive clearing was released but it seems like the guys at freesteel started developing it in 2003 or 2004 as per their web site. HSMworks was a great product clearly ahead of its time. Too bad Autodesk got to it. I fear it is destined to be abandon ware.

What kind of removal rate is that? I'm estimating about 14.5 CIM during the full-depth cuts.

3/8 mill, 12,000 rpm, 500 IPM, but you NEVER SAY STEP OVER. How far were you stepping over radially?
