With how magic is based on your understanding of physics, you could theoretically nuke everything into oblivion simply by imagining atoms fusing together, which would make the MC the most overpowered guy ever and he wouldn’t even have to try. If fusing atoms is to far simply compressing water to an absurd degree would also do it Also it’s quite absurd that he would use engineering to fix problems when everything could be done with that OP magic system with a little bit of imagination

Carrots as we know them are bred to be sweet. The "original" root vegetable was bitter to deter most herbivore animals as a defense. This is true for many types of plants and veggies, even fruits, so that they won't get eaten until ripe so their seeds can be spread through digestion and defication. So in an undeveloped world it makes sense that carrots are bitter because noone has the knowledge about breeding a type of carrot that is sweet as we know it today.

Magic in itself is a physicist breaking phenomenon, not explainable or understandable. If you are able to control, understand, and explain, then it is no longer magic but science. Using your mind in the way most anime depicts magic isn't magic but more akin to psychic abilities. Chantless and non material using spellcasting and focusing on mental imagery is nothing more than psychic powers. There's nothing wrong with that, but in my opinion, it's not magic it's sci-fi.
