You and Chie are hands down the best that's happened to woodworking on youtube lately. Just you working on your shop making incredibly beautiful pieces over some nice music and everything being exceptionally filmed. Seriously, hats off to both of you.

Usually, stowable furniture has a cheap, Ikea-like look. This totally blow that notion out of the water. Beautiful!

Mate, all your work is just stupendous! What surprises me most is you don't drive even a single metal nail or screw into wooden pieces. This very approach brings kind of divinity in the finished product. All the best and may God bless you.

Hard to tell, but is the dovetail insert grain running along the length of the insert? If it is, not sure how it would provide any strength to the joint...maybe the grain is at an angle? Anyway, nice table and relaxing video.

Ishitani-san - I enjoy your videos very much and always find both new technique and inspiration in every one! One question - at the 7:59 mark it appears that cut-out on the cross bars are both pointing down (toward the floor) but at assembly at 8:13 one is up and one is down so they can nest within each other. At first I thought it was a joinery mistake but then thought perhaps you were actually making more than one table. Thanks.

i'm a bit new to woodworking and i love his works but , isn't that a bad idea to glue them up to the top end grain? (due to wood movement)

@tooljunkie555
@tooljunkie555 7 жыл бұрын
Matt Yach all depends on where he puts the glue. if it was me id use very little on the ends cuz its a very tight nit joint as u seen him hammering it on.. I have never done a sliding dovetail breadboard end so I really don't know but traditional breadboard ends you only put glue on the middle tenens to allow wood movement but if I ever give it a try I'll let you know how it goes :-)

I'm doing something wrong! I work at 100mph for hours each day to fulfil my orders. I barely get time to eat. I've got sawdust all over the shop and in every orifice you can think of - yet here's Ishitani producing exquisite stunning pieces at turtle pace; as calm and relaxed as can be. I don't see any impatient couriers lined up at his workshop waiting to load their vans. I've never seen him take any 'when are you coming home' phone calls from the wife or mix up a pot noodle with one hand while staining with another? Damn! I need to get my act together!

Nice work. How do you account for wood movement with the way you've attached the top to the base? Your joints at the center of the base look tight as do the round tenons/legs into the holes/mortises in the top. Love the editing of your videos.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe there's enough flex across the longer pieces of wood that it can handle the top's movement?
