He changed the minute he knew the throne was his birth right. Kosem would obviously challenge that so one of her son's could ascend. Add to that the fact he is influenced by his mother safiye who's been the biggest threat to kosem. Even more so the fact he only ever did all the things he did because he was in love with kosem.
