Mayor Isko mentioned about an architect, Daniel Burnham, who designed the city hall of Manila. I also learned from my husband, a native of baguio, that he designed the city plan for the city of BAGUIO in the early 1900, thus the name Burnham park is given as a tribute to him. We went to CHICAGO last week, and learned that Mr. Burnham was also the head architect of the city of Chicago. I love the idea of a new City Hall tower, it reminds me of Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building that houses several government offices of the city as well as a free viewing deck frequented by tourists. The existing Manila City Hall has a great potential of being a museum or art gallery like the National Art Gallery in Singapore. If it happens, it's going to be an old and new landmark not only for Manileños but to all Filipinos and tourists.

A politician who respects culture and heritage; someone who acknowledges the importance of urban planning consistent with modernization without compromising heritage preservation; He is even aware of the 1905 Grand Plan for Manila made by the world renowned Daniel Burnham. He is aware that culture and heritage is the soul of the city, specially if the city involved is Manila, one of the pioneers of globalization in Asia if not the whole world. Manila is the face of the entire archipelago, hence its built heritage should be preserved. I am not even a native of Manila but I have been living here for more than 2 years as a student. I am saddened by what Erap is doing regarding the city's built heritage (from San Sebastian Church, to Intramuros, Manila Metropolitan Theater, Escolta, Rizal Memorial Coliseum, etc.) Manila is in a state of decay, it is very depressing to traverse Avenida de Rizal specially when this was once considered as the central business district of the whole metro. Manileños deserve more, or rather, Filipinos do because Manila's demise is no longer an issue for Manileños but an issue of the collective identity of every Filipinos. I cannot vote in Manila. But please, Isko Morena, is a gem in a sea of buffoons who see heritage and culture as nothing but waste of attention because they can't produce money, which is by the way baseless. (You don't go to Paris, Barcelona, or even Vigan and Intramuroa because it has many jobs, you go there because of its culture and heritage.) For what it is worth, please Manileños, revive the soul of Manila and vote wisely.

I wish the design would be consistent with the existing building. Manila should be rehabilitated but it's atmosphere and feel should be consistent with what Burnham envisioned but more geared towards modernism.

great idea but it must be build ,the new city hall in high rise with plenty of parking and the type of architecture is art deco type but modern inside for its function .i remember my last day in my architecture in school and dean areallano to re-habilitate the metropolitan theatre .
