I was first introduced to John Abercrombie when Drummer Peter Erskine brought out an educational video, I think there were 2 video's actually, one I think was called "Time Keeping Is Everything" I have them boxed up somewhere. The 2nd video had the Trio Band play, Peter Erskine, Marc Johnson, John Abercrombie. The music played was very Improvised & High End as you would expect from musicians of this caliber, Every note played simply went hand in hand with the Record Label ECM. Even though I'm a Pro Drummer myself I have a real passion for Guitarists that are at the Top Of Their Game, Players like Metheny, Ritenour, Carlton, Scofield, my list is endless. It was Abercrombie that really caught my ears, Loved his Style, His Choice of Notes, The Tone of his Guitar & Strings but I also respected his very mature Understanding of Music, John could go Real Deep into the Fabric of the Piece Being Performed and talk about that piece as Hills & Valley's, Peaks & Trough's, Light & Dark but having Textures of Color in the Shades & Shadows. I am going to make an effort to search for more of John's work as I'm in No doubt, All will Sound Simply Beautiful. R.I.P. John Abercrombie R.I.P.

I first became aware of John Abercrombie when he did some session work with Billy Cobham. It was then I bought the "Timless" album with Jan Hammer and Jack De Johnette. Two of my favorite tracks are "Love Song" and "Ralphs Piano Waltz." Ralph being Ralph Towner, of course. I saw him live only once, when he played a North Side Chicago club known as "Ratso's." with De Jonette , a reed player named Alex Foster and, I think Phil Upchuch on rhythm guitar. They performed before 15-20 people and I'll never forget it. John's tones are incredible. I've been listening to him ever since. LONG LIVE JOHN ABERCROMBIE!

"I first became aware of John Abercrombie when he did some session work with Billy Cobham. It was then I bought the "Timless" album with Jan Hammer and Jack De Johnette." Incredible! This is exactly the same way I came to know about Abercrombie and DeJohnette. I picked up something by Cobham, simply because I knew his work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and was blown away by Abercrombie on it. Bought 'Timeless' and it opened a whole new world of music for me on the ECM label.

It was with Gateway with Dave Holland and Jack Dejohnette, that I discovered Abercrombie, with tracks like "Back Woods Song", "Sorcery", and the beautiful blues: "Blue", on Gateway 2. Already I could feel all the poetry in his way of playing. You gave us so much. Chow John, rest in peace.

Wow !!! 175 views only after 8 month. They would better never have learn their scales , more ever guitar gives finger aches.John Abercrombie is a very influent guitarist (he introduced the longitudinal playing on guitar before Pat Metheny). All the jazz guitar and non jazz guitar books speak of him. Ralph Towner is a genius. He had made history with the first Weather Report. All the DJ and rappers without knowing nothing about music , and without an inch of grace are thousand times richers.

The beatiful photo from the space seems to be of the Malvinas - Faklands Is. in the south Atlantic, a war ravaged area in 1982. Sadly, sooner or later, they will be again. Beatiful music anyway, thanks.

For those who haven't lived through these musical years, I remind them that Abercrombie was the father of this Metheny guitar technique.

A fabulous recording, their "follow-up" to Sargasso Sea, hence the title, i.e. 5 years later. ECM stopped printing it many years ago, and didn't even have anything on CD or download, until about a year or so ago, and it is now available CD and higher weight vinyl. Highly recommended, especially the vinyl copy (pricey if you order direct from ECM), but a great listen when you have a quiet moment to listen to the entire recording without any other distractions.

If you can find it, "Arcade" is a very fine John Abercrombie Quartet album.

If this just came on my Spotify, without being identified, I would have put $100 on it being Pat Metheny. This is quite a revelation for me.

Very true Hery. You're right, but what can I do? I think the issue is wonderful, representative of two geniuses. I'm content to enjoy it myself. Thanks!
