Islam Ramazanovich Makhachev is a Russian professional mixed martial artist and former Sambo competitor. He currently competes in the Lightweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Lightweight Champion.[8] A professional competitor since 2010, Makhachev was the combat sambo world champion at 74 kilograms in 2016.[9] As of November 14, 2022, he is #2 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
Alexander Volkanovski (born 29 September 1988) is an Australian mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Featherweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Featherweight Champion. He is also a former Australian Fighting Championship (AFC) Featherweight champion. Prior to his UFC debut, Volkanovski competed as a professional boxer in 2015. I'm more of a Volk's fan than Makhachev's, but Makhachev has all the weapons to beat Volk. Especially in wrestling and on the ground. If Volk can out strike Makhachev and strong enough to defend Makhachev's take down attepmts, he'll be fine. But we all know that they all know what the Dagestani's plan is, but still can't do anything about it. So, it's Makhachev.

Gonna make a huge difference without having khabib in his corner. Khabib walked him through a couple finishes. Dan hooker you could here him yell what to do. Islam is a problem for sure but volk is so under estimated and will be more of a problem then people want to believe. Being that volk played rugby and weighed over 200 will help with the power and with how he out classed hollaway with ease. Gonna be a damn good fight and I personally think it's an even fight between the two and volk being shorter might play into his favor defending the takedowns. Can't wait .

Yea but footrips work best on long legs volk used to be a rugby player his legs are thick asf and short same for throws I feel like folks shortness and size helps him against takedowns, but not grappling(short legs)

I think Islam has as good hands as any other lightweight out of the UFC. He is not quite as flashy as some but he hits hard enough to hurt people and once he's stunned you for a second you're already wrapped up and trying to fight off a sub. This said Volk is the most likely fighter to beat him right now out of anyone who is in the weight class. Couple of 170 guys who are right there with anyone at any weight but I can't see any of them being able to cyt 15 more pounds and survive the weight cut.

I mean the only way you make makachev fear for a TD is if you are like Charles who so good at catching neck but since volk is not a threat in the ground then makachev won't worry wrestle him or taking him down for a whole fight it's either volk knock him out early in the feet before makachev take him down because so far only tsarukyan manage to get up quick after getting taken down by Islam

I don't think it will do much to hurt the legacy he is building, but i can't picture a way Volkanovski wins. I don't think the loss will hurt him much, but a win against Makhachev, something conclusive, and he might be in the GOAT talks for p4p all time. The same way fighters are bought to their feet where nothing is happening or are broken apart in boxing. Holding on to limbs should be regulated too. Holding is control.. but not the kind where for example, you would tie someone up in boxing. Well same for wrestling.. if you are just trapping limbs.. there needs to be a time limit or fighters bought back to feet. At present Sambo has too many advantages.

@@stephenmonash821 people with other styles of martial arts also try to control people on the ground by holding in different methods but to penalize sambo because it is more effective is like trying to penalize a basketball player who's developed a special jump shot like Dirk nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks who could release such a high point that he could never get it blocked. You don't penalize excellence. You either reward it or at least enjoy it
