Balkans was previously a part of Yugoslavia ,which itself was a chunk of USSR ,so when USSR broke down Yugoslavia was also disintegrated .A power struggle ensued between the different ethnic groups as in who will govern the area. The problem of Balkans is their ethnic population ,serbs vs croats vs bosniaks .bosniaks are the Muslim ones and unfortunately they are minority .if you are interested in world history research on Balkans war .Still now they have not solved this ethnic issue ,later these albanians and kosovars started with this independence thing . The only country that peacefully established itself post Yugoslavia breakup was slovenia

@@Slots-Room Too bad nobody knew the nationality of this "strong leader". Nobody knew why he gave more rights to Albanians in Kosovo despite it being an autonomous province Serbia. Yugoslavia was made to be destroyed, it was not about greed completely. If you were a Croatian/Serbian living in an entity which is surrounded by Bosniak villages, would you like to be called a Bosnian? Or if you were a Serb living in the Krajina region of Croatia (where over 250,000 Serbs were expelled by Croatian soldiers in Operation Storm), you wouldn't want anything to do with Croatians. That's essentially what happened during the 90's when Tudjman and Izetbegovic wanted their own state. Of course there was going to be ethnic cleansing, every ethnicity was segregated in more ways than one. The fact that politicians thought it would be a good idea to form the Kingdom of Slovenes, Serbs and Croats shows you how corrupt their "diplomacy" was. I mean, Ustashe soldiers committed a genocide against Serb and Jewish citizens which isn't even spoken about. People don't even know that Jasenovac is, let alone that it was one of the most extreme concentration camps in WW2.
