Assalaamu Alaikum I really wanted to study and have interest in the field of psychology. But what I realised is that it is not the way Islam approaches psychology and treating disorders. As such, I hope we muslims put effort and bring about this much needed change called Islamic Psychology. And that they are RECOGNISED as a career of its students by institutes and organizations. I am genuinely asking for help.......

i love psychology so much, subhaana Allah may Allah ease your journey ustadz and may it become reality to see this world change with Islamic values and practices. Aamiin.
Alsalamu Alaykom Wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuh I love these videos and I feel blessed to have found a way to contribute :) I happen to have my captions turned on, and unfortunately, some of these sentences are a little off... (one was Slightly offensive even.. let's just say there were enchilladas involved) So if I may attempt to re-write a few. (Sorry in advance for any mistakes I may have made, perfection is for Allah alone.) 0:00on the phone. You see the vast majority 0:13of Muslims today or such a huge 0:15number of Muslims today that are 0:17educated. Maybe they're educated with a 0:19bachelor's, master's, maybe they're 0:21physicians. But they're middle class, or 0:23upper middle class or upper class. You 0:26know what the assumption is in so many Muslim minds, 0:29that Islam is backward, and 0:30it's not just Islam. They think religion 0:32itself is backward we're living in the 0:35modern time. In modern times, and as 0:37 a result of modernity we have to keep up 0:38with the times, and Islam is one of those 0:40things that is holding us back. Islam is 0:43not dealing with things that are 0:44happening right now. When we create 0:46practical Islamic education that deals 0:49with realities of our time then we are 0:51able to display in the most intellectual 0:53fashion, that Islam in fact doesn't just 0:55deal with the situation's of our time, 0:57the needs of our time, the criteria that 1:00you know, the areas of inquiry of our 1:01time, but actually has solutions in 1:04these areas - that haven't yet even been 1:05discovered. It has things to offer the 1:08world of psychology, that the world of 1:10psychology has never known they have 1:12never known. I'm a I'm a basic level 1:15student of psychology, I can tell you Islamic 1:18 psychology can revolutionize how 1:20psychology is studied. It can completely 1:22revolutionize it. Modern psychology 1:25studies begins with the assumption that 1:26human beings are flawed, that they have 1:29to be fixed- they're just flawed. And from 1:32Freud onwards, we're messed up and we 1:34have to get un-messed up so whether it's 1:36by means of pills or therapy, whether 1:38it's cognitive or you know medical/ 1:40clinical psych, you have to undo the mess 1:43that you are. Islam begins with the 1:46premise that you are flawless "kulli mawloodin yewladu 1:49 3ala al Fitrah" You start with Fitrah 1:52 and then there were corruptions 1:54that came in. You have to ,if you can 1:56undo the corruptions there's something 1:57good at the bottom. There's something 1:58pure, there's something great at the 2:00essence of the human being. Is our 2:02approach going to be completely 2:04different as Muslim psychiatrics/ 2:05 psychologist? Yeah, it's going to 2:07be totally different. Islamic psychology 2:10says your whims, your desires, what you 2:12wish for, what you want, Allah put that in 2:15you. But you have to control it in order 2:17to achieve happiness. If you let your 2:19desires control you, you will be 2:21miserable in this dunya (Life) and in the 2:22 Akhirah (Afterlife). Modern psychology says do what 2:24 feels good. Do what feels good. 2:27That's what they'll tell you: "what makes 2:30you feel comfortable", that must be the 2:32judge of what is right for you. Because 2:34what is right for you is not what's 2:35right for me, everybody has their own 2:37'what's right for you' based on what? Your 2:39whim, your personal desire. Does Islam 2:41have something else to offer even in 2:44the psychological sense? absolutely! and 2:45i'm not even- i'm not a PhD in psychology 2:47I'm just basic, bachelor level psychology. But I'm 2:51telling you, we have a completely 2:53different world view to offer and it can 2:56really help people. This Deen (Religion/Way of life) came to 2:58help humanity, right?! So we are going to 3:01be able to give the highest levels of 3:03education in islam, if we address the 3:05foundations. This is the few things that i 3:07want to share with you about the 3:08renaissance in Islam, that Insha'Allah ta3alah (If Allah, the Most High, Wills) I'm 3:11completely optimistic that it's coming. 3:12If we have the vision for it, and we have the 3:15drive for it, B'Ithin Allah Ta3ala (With Allah's permission) we 3:17will achieve it in our own lifetime. We 3:19will see a revolution in how Islam is 3:21understood all across the world and the 3:23Ummah will be uplifted in its information 3:25and its understanding and in its 3:27application. Barak Allah li wa lakum (May Allah bless us) 3:29I'll open it up at this point Insha'Allah (If Allah wills) 3:31 for questions and answers, but 3:33before that Suhail and some of the 3:35associates at SUFA are going to make 3:37some announcements for you. Jazak Allah Khair (May Allah re compensate you with that which is Good)

Islam can revolutionise psychology, 💯 true! I read the book Mars and Venus Together Forever, it's about how to communicate effectively with your spouse giving the differences between men and women. However, if we just practice "Speak good or remain silent" "Good words are sadaqah" "Whoever doesnt have mercy,he will not be shown mercy" as in the hadith of our Beloved Prophet PBUH, we are providing solution before the problem SubhanAllah!

at 1:24 you say "modern psychology studies begin with the assumption that all human beings are flawed". Can you please provide evidence of this? In all the research I've encountered, psychology studies make hypotheses about human nature (like compassion, anger, greed etc) and them test them. After these hypotheses have been tested then we can prove whether they're true or not - so there's no assumptions behind it.
@farihafarid8027 жыл бұрын
Matthew James he means that if we approach a psychiatrist or psychologist, they already think that we have a messed up mind and we have depression or anxiety or whatever. and we need to be 'fixed' by pills and therapy and others. i think that is what he means.
@tristaniaainiyah41697 жыл бұрын
Matthew James I'm a Muslim & currently studying psychology in bachelor degree. And yeah, actually, different schools of thought would provide different views about human being. Psychology is a study about human, and since human is a really complex creature, it could not be studied from only one point of view. Of course, if you read about Sigmund Freud, you will find that he thought human is basically messed up and only consists of unconscious drives. But if you read about Allport, Carl Rogers, and any other humanistic psychologists, you will get a more optimistic view about humanity. But from what I've read, it's true that years and years ago, psychology took too much emphasis to cure people from their psychosis and unhealthy mind, as if all people that come to psychologists are sick. (which aren't true.) "Abnormalities" only constitute minor proportion on the whole population, so majority of people actually have healthy psychological well-being. But recently, there's this field called positive psychology (founded by Martin Seligman), which emphasizes the good qualities about human beings and tries to enhance that. And I think positive psychology really fits the Islamic perspective about human. (sorry for bad English, I'm just trying to explain my opinion, since I'm currently learning about the subject. cmiiw!)

(Me in this case) that you have such good animations but the narrators are lagging behind in terms of quality. 2. Please provide source or citation for your claims, you claim that "psychologist do this and that". In my study i found that its wrong for therapist to think like you said, and it's never mentioned in such way to be perceive like that. Of course i can be wrong in this point, but please provide the source, or you just going to taint mainstream psychology and promote your kind of psychology just with assumption. Some people might believe in you just like that, and it's absolutely not an education in my opinion. 3. As for your other claim, i think it was in a form of entertainment, so whatever float's your boat. Have a good day.

Talk about confirmation bias sir, One starts the journey of acquisition of knowledge with an open mind to what they might ind. I can talk for hours and hours about why the notion you have proposed is honestly wishful thinking to the literal differentiation of the word, but coming into the field of human psychology with a fixed mindset that unless what is found aligned with what you were taught to believe is the literal application of confirmation bias. I do wish you the best of luck with your psychology degree, but I would urge you to apply the concepts you are learning more.

Sorry, but the need is to go much deeper, recognizing what our model in Islam is. No help is saying: "Moden psychology says this, does that," and it is wrong and uninformed. Our Islam is, or can be, the Guidance for these sick times in perfect fact! The model in our Islam itself demands we see what "psychology" is and why it is becoming more prevalent. Speaking about psychology from an ignorant point of view does not help. There are thousands of approaches the psychologists take. Sadly, many Muslim psychologists are straining to fit their "Islam" into what they know of psychology, including the author of this video with due respect. The Shaykh al Azhar, Abdul Halim Mahmoud, said " every Sufi Shaykh is a psychotherapist." That may have been more true in the past and pretty much rare or absent in this post-modern fractured world. Today a Shaykh is often more a celebrity, still providing a solid framework in our Deen, and inspiration at times well, but only partially, at best, filling the acute needs today. Part of our hikmah requires us to see and understand why there is such proliferation of these things due to the need of Muslims and others seeking help that does not practically come from the Islamic teachers and lofty words that are barely heard or drowned in the hurricane of our days.
