i love that you do such incredibly beautiful work using only prismacolors- (something I can afford!) without a bunch of other supplies. i do this for fun, and i cannot justify a big bunch of art supplies for a beginning hobby! thanks for showing what's possible with my prismacolors!

Cathy Gehrts I started out with Crayola pencils . Thought I NEEDED a beter brand name. I have seen some very amazing work done with only Crayolas . Just to prove you don't need to spend $$$$ to achieve great work.

Are you able to sharpen your prismacolour pencils without a lot of breakage. I heard that Prismacolour pencils are not worth the price. I am saving for a full set of Faber Castell Polychromos. What do you think?

How on Earth do you work out what colours and shades to use? Assuming you have the 150 tin of pencils, that is a lot of pencils to choose from and I don't think I will ever be able to do so, without tutorials such as yours to copy from. Thank you so much for your help and ideas Chris!

Kate O just think of what a rainforest is like.. ( if u want it close to real) find pics online to use as guides. There are plenty of colors to match up in the box... otherwise, use your imagination on what you want in the picture. Put a sunrise or sunset behind the trees... you can do anything. Put red, purple or orange leaves... not all in a jungle or rainforest are green. :). I found a great site that has all the colorwheels, tints and shades I share with my students.. coschedule.com it has proved very helpful to them. ;)

Linda, I would say, "No" but that depends on a lot of the lightfast ratings of the individual pencils, the brand, the paper, etc. Never, ever hang a colored pencil painting in direct sunlight. The less sunlight, the better. You can use UV glass in your frame for added protection. If you're going to leave the painting in a book of some sort that mostly stays closed then it should be fine, no worries.

Sandra, just to add to Chris' sharpener info... My experience... About two weeks to a month after I started using a new manual sharpener when the "newness" started wearing off (but, still quite sharp), my pencils would start breaking. I finally purchased a helical blade sharpener (several brands on Amazon, mine was "Laneco" battery operated), and it basically stopped my pencils from breaking! You can find them for under $20 - best $20 I ever spent. Just make sure it says it's a "helical" sharpener - like the wall-mount school hand crank ones with the funny (helical) blades. Doesn't matter if it's hand crank or electric. I prefer batteries so I can use it anywhere. Also, they put a lovely extra-long point on your pencils! Good luck in your quest!

It's in there, just past the middle of the book, a couple pages past the skull💀 picture . If you didn't see the first few minutes of the video, Chris added the lake, mountains, trees, and extra leaves - mostly straight lines, but it's all easy drawing. The original picture just has the one tree with the big roots and the monkey.
