Bro , the broken hook... I know ALL ABOUT SHITTY TERMINAL TACKLE AND HOOKS! All my recent biggest GT's (Except one) Were lost to faulty / cheaply made products wtf is going on? Big companies selling out to cheap manufacturing and costing us countless hours on the ledge, it ain't cool. So yeah i feel ya bro! Tough one. Sick vid none the less! Yewww

I reckon cus I didn’t set the hook it just pinned it and had sideways pressure + current + briggsy drag setting = big explode? But you might be right it could have just been a dodgy hook 🤷‍♂️

Briggsy, how you didn't get popped off with the strike at your feet along the ledge surprised me but when it took you to the outer rock point, I surely thought it was over. Very sporting of your mate to yield position due to your fish being on but that current behavior had rock shelter written all over it. The fact that your hook busted clean off, instead of your line, is beyond frustrating and possibly an example of poor quality control production. Exciting top water boils at the end. Cheers mate.

Hi Mate, yeah but I don't blame BKK. I'd used it on previous trips so it wasn't brand new and I didn't set the hook because i had to run, so it would have had a ton of sideways pressure on it instead of pressure on the deep belly part of the hook. I don't have any affiliation with BKK but just reckon it was my fault.

Nice video, Briggsy, plenty of action on this amazing spot. But I'm suprised you don't use big poppers in such areas, you would wake up and bring to your feet all the big fellows swimming within 500m. Stickbaits are good when the fish are already on the spot but with large poppers, you attract big fish from very far away. Here in New Caledonia, I sometimes see big Spanish jumping like dolphins from 500m away to come and see my popper. Usually they won't grab the popper, but if you then change to a 60/80g metal spoon or jig, you get the strike. And without the popper, that fish would never come close enough to reach it from the shore. Same for GTs, I personally catch 95% of my biggest fish on big poppers and only 5% using all other lures. Just my experience. Have a good day, Bro'!

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Sick hook up! Hard to believe a hook of that gauge just snapped. Surprised you haven’t tried Queenfish before. Here in Hawaii we make sashimi out of the smaller relative….Leather Skin Queen Fish, locally called Lai. Old time fishermen use the dried skin to make lures. I think one of the local lure makers still does use the skin in clear resin poppers.

I have had GT take a fish i was reeling in literally at my feet, other fish, eels and sharks do that too. yes I know they are all fish. I have actually caught a big coral trout by using another fish I had just caught with the hook in its mouth as bait the Coral Trouts teeth caught in that fishes Flesh and I quickly dragged it unto the reef.

Was that a lone diablo? Love bkk hooks, they're super strong and won't bend, but the downside is they're more brittle (stiff metal will break instead of bending like softer, ductile metal). I've broken the tip off of small bkks crushing the barbs. Maybe that hook was damaged from crushing the barb or it's seen some use and had minor damage on it that exploded under huge pressure. Just a theory!
