Island Volcano Menace | National Geographic

I went to school there. I left after hurricane Hugo destroyed the house and then this happened... burying the main town under ash. Today, only the north tip is habitable. This is a lovely island with some lovely people. Visit there if you ever want a vacation to "get away from it all"... you won't be disppointed. And, if you ever meet a Montserratian: you can count on their honesty and good will.

I visited Montserrat 🇲🇸 on a Christmas cruise with Royal Caribbean in 2012 on the Oasis.. such a quaint and calm little island.. not much to do but very quiet and peaceful.. ❤🌴🍹🌺 hope I can go back one day

Life is good on the Island, beautiful and Majestic... lush and green, got family still there, going back soon. Viva Montserrat, cork Hill represent. 😎

Most don't live there any more. They go back once in a while but it is still too dangerous to stay there for long.

July 18th 1995, one day before my 11th birthday. I'd just left primary school earlier that month & was on 6 weeks of school summer holidays before starting high school. Where's the time gone at all. I remember it being all over the news.. the volcano, not me starting high school
