My wife Libby and I have been watching you two ! Since you started the channel and can honestly say you are the very best of what you do...our son has only just shown us how to comment on You Tube and feel qualified to do so after 42 years of Caravanning, campervanning throughout the Uk and France. My wife and I bicker a bit more than you pair out on the tar but would not have it any other way...in conclusion, many thanks for informative, enjoyable and Honest content , on a way of life that has sustained us throughout the ups and downs of what is know as life ! Congrats Ken and Carol and most importantly enjoy yourselves to the max.....many thanks for your efforts. Much enjoyed up here in Scotland !!! CHEERS ! Martin and Libby McDowall.

Thanks for your lovely comment Martin and regards to you and your wife. 42 years, I bet you have some wonderful memories. Personally I think we get more than one life but just in case we intend to enjoy this one as much as we can. Life is definitely too short. Thanks for watching and for finding out to how to talk to us through comments. 👍

Another fantastic video, thank you Ken & Carol. It would be amazing to see the Laxey wheel running but I guess that's a NO from health & safety. You're right, the conditions down the mine now would be luxury compared to days of old. The youth of today have no idea!

Hi John, yes we got into the wheel (and most attractions free) because we are members of the National Trust and English Heritage. Both of those allow members of Manx Heritage free entry in exchange in the UK. The wheel drives the connecting rod back and forth along that arched track and at the end is a pump that draws water from the mine. I would have loved to see it in action.

The "derelict house" on Laxey prom used to be a good cafe and shop in the good old days of mass tourism (which was just about still going when I was little). I was brought up in Laxey (it means "Salmon River" in Norse) before it became more of a dormitory village for Douglas, and when there were many more small shops and cafes, putting greens and the like. My Dad worked for the man who had the concessions at the Wheel and Glen Gardens - the shop etc at the Wheel burned down years ago, and all the swings, boating lake etc in the Gardens have long gone. I am now in Panama - a very, very different sort of place!

KZbin has been really strange for a while. I am supposed to be able to upload as ‘unlisted’ which means people shouldn’t see it until it’s ready for release. That has proved very unreliable of late. Now I have to upload them as private first as there is a bit of work to be done on them before they are ready to be seen. That messes with the release data. 🙄👍

@@LifeistooshortCK I've been firmly convinced for two or three years now. That's what social media sites do best, mess with the data. 🤔🤣. There are a couple of American contributers that I don't actually subscribe to as I consider a lot of the output irrelevant and the Vloggers have that kind of accent and tone that is quite annoying ( politically correct, not ) and nevertheless I'll get an immediate ping for new content which will then show on the homescreen. Two days later if I haven't viewed it it will pop up in notifications but obviously never in Subs. Conclusion: what you and I want is irrelevant, KZbin pushes what it likes and by whatever algorithms it pleases. I only have two social media accounts. KZbin and what my granddaughters used to call Bookface when they were little. I won't use all the others as I think they are mainly, what do they call it, clickbait ? 😬

Well done for both climbing to the very top, great shame the wheel wasn't operational. They seem to have replaced the older rickety and rusty flat iron handrails making my journey back down in 2012 very intense especially as the treads were wet from the wheel spray. I remember that archway! Looking forward to what happens next. Good work.

Thank you for sharing the village of Laxey with us..Found the enormous water wheel interesting and the height of it amazing..I too am not found of heights, when visiting the Grand Canyon not able to go on the clear platform and look down into the canyon...able to see the canyon a few feet from the edge and just look across never down. The lady with the death hold on the hand rail should have kept both feet on the ground..😊 Do have a question...you mention on some videos how warm it is...Does the van have factory air conditioning, as here it is a must, no need for a heater? Stay safe from Arizona🌵🌞
@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK 3 жыл бұрын
I am not keen on heights but going up there was fine. The Grand Canyon is vast and we had a beautiful trip there years ago. Our van has the normal aircon that you would find in a car so it’s not really designed to run when parked as you need the engine running. We can normally control the inside temperature quite well by covering the external windows in reflective screens. Failing that we have the two fans which are remarkably effective in bed at night 👍
@Elisabeth-zi8ww

Thank you Ken for the air conditioning information on your van..glad you have air, as it has been so warm in the UK this summer...Yes, the Grand Canyon is amazing..taking the steam engine train from Williams to the canyon is worth the expense, just impressive..Thanks again for the response...stay safe..looking forward to the next video, hoping no damage to the under carriage of the van.. 😯

Thanks for watching. We have no plans to go abroad at present, still wary of the traffic light system and all the vaccination and testing requirements.

love your vids so much. Please may I feedback wasn’t so keen on the spoiler at the beginning, because when you took the tight turn I thought Ken was going to be angry with the lovely Carol and that would have been awful. However, I did watch the next video and relief!! all was ok. thank you so much - I want to go to Laxey now!!

Pee bottles in the morning and last thing at night. In a dire emergency we would use the bivvy loo but only needed that about 5 times in 159 nights 👍

@@LifeistooshortCK 😊😊😊 thanks for your reply, ☺️☺️☺️ well, if you gotta go, yer gotta go. Watching your video now, gonna catch up with the Ireland to New Brighton vids later, in Halewood Liverpool so found the Pier Head Ferry departure vids interesting, great vids by the way, love em. We have stayed many times at a caravan camping site called Llecyn near Porth colman on Llyn peninsula. About 9 miles along the coast from Morfa Nefyn, visited that Kebab house many times, you missed out on the paper bag of lovely chips. 🍟😊😊😊 Thanks for posting, Vinny.

@@LifeistooshortCK very nice, served in a brown paper bag, lurrrrvley. Might sound mad, me, my partner my brother and my daughters partner went on a evening road trip from Liverpool to Morfa Nefyn just to get their kebabs, chips and shared a great pizza they do, my daughter Debbie who was having a fantastic holiday in Vegas, grand canyon new York got a right mood on when she heard her boyfriend Steven had gone with us on our road trip. Visited Aberdaron before heading home. We sat in that national trust car park where you stayed the night. The one on way to golf course. Ty Coch is nice village on the sea just down road from that car park. Great pub food to be had there. Pronounced tee Cork. 😎😎😎😎😎

Hi, just a question we are thinking of getting the ridge monkey, is yours the XL? Is it big enough for you both? I’m swaying towards the XL to the combi one! Xx

Ridge Monkeys, even the XL are small but then again they are sized to fit a gas ring. I would go smaller than an XL.

You say that the drone flyer was flying his drone in a “restricted area”? The Isle of Man Civil Aviation Authority is separate from the CAA, just as all Manx legislation differs from the U.K’s. The only restricted areas on the island for drone flying are within a 5 kilometre radius of Ronaldsway Airport, the Isle of Man prison (built within two of runways at Jurby airfield, these runways are also included), the temporary exclusion zones during the TT bike festivals which includes the whole of the course during race weeks and practice weeks and Andreas airfield at any time. Laxey foreshore however is no where near any ‘restricted areas’. If he allowed his aircraft to take off or land within 30 metres of any person, or fly it within 50 metres of any property or person, then he would be infringing the IOMCA’s CP4 which is entitled “Guidance for operators of small unmanned aircraft in the Isle of Man”. I’d be interested to know if he did in fact infringe these distancing guidelines?
