I have race 125 laydowns now for 10 years, this is real racing, until you shift gears you have no idea how intense this is. This will prove a real driver!

My rival “John Denton” actually passed the chequered flag just in front of me at the very end of the race (please see the closing stages of the race).

@Wizzes1 i used to race cadet 50cc and later on i did some tkm100 in the uk, i remeber watching these guys at my local circuit and just thinking holy shit thats fast!!! especially when you're arse is only an inch off the ground!!!

The race announcer couldn't be any less excited about anything.
@DaBomb3129015 жыл бұрын
Wow that was really intense and interesting. I love the announcer's line at 4:32, "The power-to-weight ratio is extraordinary of course in karting, no weight and...oodles of power." ;-)

I raced in this race , managed to get a 6th place . It was my second year in 250E karts and I loved it. The hardest thing was the jump on the Peel cross roads , boy it was sore on your back , no suspension! The peel event was stopped a few years later as someone was killed. A local young lady! I remember her at the Andreas kart circuit each meeting but did not know here personally. How sad.
@TheReapersSon15 жыл бұрын
I had no idea they even had Karting that was this intense. This is probably the coolest racing I've ever seen in my life.

From Wiki: Powered by a 2-stroke 250 cc engine producing 62 hp for an overall weight including the driver of 205 kilograms, Superkarts have a power/weight ratio of 440 hp/tonne (330 W/kg)(c.5 lbs/hp). Superkarts can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).[8] Their low weight and good downforce make for excellent cornering[9] and braking abilities.[10] A Superkart is capable of braking from 100 mph (160 km/h) to standstill in around 2 seconds, and taking corners at nearly 3 g (30 m/s²). Bloodyhell!

That's the single cylinder machines, the 250 Formula E's are 250 twin, 80+bhp and up to 180mph depending on final drive ratio.

i just done my first race in tkm at the weekend n i woke up covered in bruises. imagine how bad it would be after your first run out in one of them :P and thats before i even think about doin it round peel haha. its amazing how they learn to take the impact and g fprce pf the corners coz i assume they are just standed fiberglass kart seats?

NIGEL MANSEL, DAVID COULTHARD BOTH TRIED THIS AND SAID IT IS THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCE OF THEIR LIFE. THIS IS A REAL MANS SPORT AND NOT FOR THE FAINTHEARTED.
@onpsxmember9 жыл бұрын
My favorite part is the cam close to the pedals/feet racing with 150mph through narrow streets, every bump means airtime and I wonder if someone could reconstruct your legs at an impact at 30mph... I raced karts but 125cc max that go maybe up to 90mph max. We had one circuit with bumps like that. It sucks so much and eats parts for brakefast. I'd still try and take one of those to the nordschleife. That would be my way to go out in style. I'd add a front wing...

The beauty of kart racing is that you can be a 7 year old racing 50cc karts or a 70 year old doing 160 mph on a 250cc death machine. It's one of the only forms of racing where anyone can join.

eh i own a kart but the tracks i go to let you go at a max speed of 90mph, and trust me, with no suspension already at that speed you have a lot of corrections to do with the steering. i wonder how it is like when you go 150mph

No they would be slower with suspension on them. No suspension is what gives them there incredible steering accuracy. I would probably be more comfortable though .... but comfort comes second to speed. These are pretty quick but we are quite a lot quicker now.

Roger Goff did race at the IOM GP one year, but didn't finish, Roger was one of the Greats IMO, and a real nice guy & fantastic engine tuner, we were racing pals & both enjoyed a beer together on many occasions lol...He's now working for one of the F1 teams I last heard...
@alanpritchard6315Ай бұрын
Yes Roger Goff, is a great guy, and extremely quick, certainly one of the very best n fastest drivers in his day, Roger and I drank many beers together lol, normally the night before the final and both got tested in Le mans world championship one year lol

I hear these karts can reach at least 160 mph
@alanpritchard63157 жыл бұрын
Yes that's true, in 1986 I was invited with 9 other superkart drivers from all over the world including the great Martin Hines, to do a 3 lap demonstration run at the Formula 1 British GP. On our 2nd flying lap we were all individually electronically clocked in excess of 160mph near to the end of Hanger Straight. we were all using Rotax Twin Cylinder 256 90hp motors, (not the little single cylinder 66hp motors that the young pretenders use today lol) & some of us our flying lap times would have out qualified some of the slower F1's on the day! & we were visibly far quicker through the newly establish Luffield Complex than the F1s on the day.
