Well done. The current traditional approach of "implementing" a specific standard will be: 1. extremely costly (required internal+‘external expensively resources…); 2. Positive internal change impact will be very limited and isolated in specific employees/systems/departments…and will not spread through all levels/domains of management 3. Change in management or position of employees will reduce the interest of standard 4. Interrelationships/dependency between standards will not be provided by standard’s experts …. To overcome all these limitations and adapt/roll-out standards in effective/efficient and manage in a better way (eg, have a complete standard’s lifecycle); companies need a full-fledged intelligent management application system…

Every organization has a management system, the issue revolves around that systems ability to meet the requirements of its customers and regulatory obligations, additionally considered could be the activities of politically subversive organizations. ISO Management System Standards (MSS) are poor performers at achieving success toward meeting such requirements as they are academically heavy in their construct, and unknowledgeable of Deming as a strategic methodology at discovering Variation. Deming's PDSA is not the same A Toyota's PDCA. Therefore, an organization which relies upon ISO MSS's will find itself immersed in the heavy handed Academic approaches defined by TC176, and therefore find itself sluggish and ineffective. In contrast to the ISO approach, an organization which understands PDSA and PDCA and applies them properly, will find themselves far more effective at meeting its expectations and obligations.

The original intent of ISO management system standards has bee lost over time. The concept of ISO 9001 was to provide an organizations supplier base with a structure which was the minimum standardized agreed upon by all nations and organizations. Therefore supplier organizations no longer were required to maintain various requirements for its customers, many of which conflicted each other. Try to imagine for instance being a supplier to Ford, Toyota, Mercedes, Fiat, Mack/Cummins, Isuzu, and John Deere. Imagine the variation which might occur between those manufacturers relative to control of their suppliers. In order to balance out such supplier requirements, in stepped ISO, to attempt to standardize the process or supplier management. Most of you reading here probably don't remember the 1994 version of the standard. After being an auditor for over 25 years, I have discovered some inherent flaws in ISO's approach to quality, environmental and safety management. One of the initial flaws is assuming Deming (PDSA) and Toyota (PDCA) to be the same, they are not. Study = careful examination or analysis Check = compare with a source, original, to verify Study results in the identification of the unknown Check results in identifying the capability of a stated control Assuming check covers study, causes an organization to miss the benefits of the results of analysis of the need and effectiveness of its various internal departments.
