Porcellionides virgatus is a native U.S. isopod species, but as ‪@InvertebrateDude‬ says, it is a ‘criminally underrated isopod’. There are various localities, with many unique phenotypes. In this video, I unbox Porcellionides virgatus ‘Miami’, ‘Everglades’, and ‘Big Pine Key’.

How do Isopods get along with blue death feigning beetles? Are you able to house them together?

I have seen a video of a desert vivarium with BDFBs, plenty of big larvae, and Armadillidium vulgare isopods all together, but I haven’t tried it myself. I imagine the isopods would be fine with plenty of food and a moist area .

Lot of species have same colour scheme. I collected Porcellio spinicornis with black eyes and also tails and I m trying to breed them. I guess it works like false eyes on butterfly wings. But also noticed this on lighter P. spinicornis. Strips also. and white skirts.

No, unless your house is really toasty…these are often found in amazingly warm conditions .
