Playing HOI4 is like chess in 3 dimension, with thousand figures, million cells and rules that change every 10 minutes. But when you master the basics you realize that you play against a first grader. Who knows all the rules, but cannot plan 3 moves ahead.

It is always interesting to see people breeze through this game so easily while I never quite got a grasp on it.. Especially since the supposedly "hard" game of CK2 was the one I got the most easily once I got a feel for the UI and learnt where everything is... Same with EU4, once I knew what the buttons do I can just conquer stuff left and right. Sure, I will struggle with big blobs here and there, but I never got stuck as badly as on my first game in HOI4 where I failed to even step into Poland as Germany.

You know what is funny about that...The Germany Army started as just a Civil Service force to do manual labor and help with unpaid community service. Because they had no weapons, they couldn't not be considered soldiers allowing them to expand very very quickly, once given weapons it was already over for france and poland before it started.
