His account of the first time he watched it is really similar to mine. When I was little my parents used to tell me about the movie as a bedtime story. And after a couple years I begged them to let me watch it, so they rented to movie when I was 9. Being so young, a lot of the black humor went over my head and I was haunted by the movie. I refused to watch it, even as over the years my love and interest in werewolves grew. When I was 17, I finally decided to watch it again, and it sparked a new round of deep obsession. I love An American Werewolf in London. It will always be my favorite werewolf movie.

I’m the same age as Edgar. My parents banned me from watching American Werewolf and I went behind their back, watched taped at my friend’s house and got a massive telling off. It was my first representation of London, growing up in Warwickshire. I agree that the Darts, News of the World and the test card is genius.

I do not need a remake. But people who cry and bitch around about remakes and even reboots can just ignore the newer movies. But if there would ever be a remake of American Werewolf in London...... Then Edgar Wright should make it :-P

Having been such a huge fan of AAWIL all my life over the years, it became mind-boggling to me why David Naughton did not became a bigger star. He was such a likeable presence in American Werewolf. But I only learned years later that the movie had not been a blockbuster success in the US, it was mainly a cult phenom. To me the film was so great and how all my friends loved and raved about the film back in the day I never realised that it didn't find an audience. I thought the whole World loved the movie. At least right now it is seen as a classic by many people.

I never knew that neither. I always assumed it was a big hit. I'm sure it must have done well here in the UK. My parent's used to tell me how great the film was when I was a little kid

@@simonpenum When I see that I realise that geek culture plays a lot on why movies are successful nowadays. People are directly connected to everything geek that exist and studios don't even have to bother doing promotions cause people will flock to it. It was more difficult for movies to reach people back in the day, esp movies that were a little offbeat like this(I know it's funny to view American Werewolf as "offbeat" now cause it has all the beats of a commercial movie with special effect, action, humour). I have not looked at the box office but I would bet The Howling probably was not a big success either. Yet it's another classic. I think most adults were not interested in stuff like that, there was more of a demarcation of what adults liked and kids liked. Now parents watch the MCU as much as kids. Although I don't know what that says about society. lol That being said, a lot of the greatest movies ever were not breakout successes and became word of mouth ones. Even Blade Runner. Citizen Kane. Casablanca. It's a Wonderful Life. At least American Werewolf is in great company. ;)

Ed Wright is a fantastic director, American Werewolf is a fantastic film, but I'm also not convinced that a re-make is required :/ With him on the whole being sent to bed idea when you were a kid, if you don't see the end, the monsters are still alive in your head!! :D

Rick Baker said he'd like to do another transformation scene that combined CGI and hand made special effects. On another note, this film scared me shitless the first time I saw it. That was several years ago and no film has terrified so me since. Shame. Desensitization sucks x

Saw that at 13 age of puberty two months after saw Ginger Snaps which was more of a blurring experience due it being more violent and gorey. I was aware of John Landis cause of Thriller music video which the film was an inspiration for Michael Jackson.

Baby Driver is Wright's ripoff/homage to AWIN. You have the main character who is leading a double life, he hates what happens in the second life, but doesn't really have a choice. He falls in love with a girl, but the second life keeps pulling him away. Then he has a friend from his first life who keeps urging him to do the right thing and leave the second life, but the friend is powerless to stop him himself. In the end (complete with cops at the end of the alley/bridge and him and the girl at the other end), he sacrifices himself to keep the girl away from the second life. However, I feel that AWIN is superior in that the love story is much better. I never felt like the love story worked in Baby Driver as it does in AWIN. The nurse in AWIN feels bad for David and falls for him, and we feel bad for him too, and we like her for liking him. I never got the sense of tragic romance in Baby Driver as In AWIN.

First time I watched the film was at a friends house after school and my mum came to get me before we could finish watching it and the last scene I saw was the nazi monster scene, it was years before I watched the full film.

It was obviously an accident. He mentions later in part 2 that it's a dream, so please, take a deep breath, relax, and turn off your caps lock. And if it's gonna get remade by Edgar, just be glad that it's him doing it and not Rob Zombie.

@DarknessEnabled Without John Landis, this movie would also not have been written, or directed, therefore denying Rick Baker the job and an oscar. So it's kind of a co-dependent thing. The both have to be on their game if it's gonna be a classic. Pair up Rick Baker and a hack like Rob Zombie and a good movie is unlikely to be produced.

AAWIL is the most terrifying, original class in the werewolf genre of Films. The Remake (An American Werewolf in Paris) is shit. I absoloutely hate it. The worst Film John Landis ever made.
