Yeah when i come to think about it, my old grandad old billy copper was a lucky man. Because he had a job he really like to be in, up on those old chalk downs. There's one spot in the valley just near here of Saltdean Valley where he like to be there so much as a shepherd boy he would sit on a boundary stone and eat his lunch where he could look down from the valley on to the sea. It was his favourite spot. He even asked Dad if we could sprinkle his ashes up there when he died, and that's what dad did. And I've been up there with him many times to visit the place. You'd have to have a good imagination to imagine it the way it was when bill was younger In fact when he made a recording for the BBC back in 1951 he put it quite graphically. He said I still do like to walk up on those old chalk hills where I was a shepherd boy. But they've all changed today, they're all different now he said. Today you might see a boy on a tractor with his jam and spam sandwich. When I was a boy we had to walk 10 miles Behind The Plough to Plough an acre. And then we would get back home and have potatoes and a bit of porridge. I remember looking down those hills and seeing those lovely curl of the dems, those lovely curling contours. But now you look down and all you see are houses houses and houses. I Really miss old Billy I really do :(
