HELL NO! UFC 253 Adesanya vs Costa is the best he's ever looked. He was Cody Garbrandt vs Dominick cruz level focused in that fight. Even UFC 236 Adesanya vs Gastelum for the belt would've smoked this DDP. KOing Pereira in the UFC, off a loss, for the belt, was the climax of Adesanya's fighting career. He reached the top of the mountain & conquered his boogeyman. In his next fight, he was consuming alcohol during fight camp and then lost, and then in the fight after that he was crying at the press conference (a sign of emotional instability), and then lost. Too much success is not good for UFC fighters. They lose their fangs. See McGregor. Dustin Poirer has never been undisputed Champ and that has kept that fire burning for a loooong time.
@rajivsporkslede78604 ай бұрын
Izzy, you’re the reason I started watching UFC. I found your fight with Gastelum on KZbin, and I was hooked by your style-the movement, the confidence. From that moment, I became a fan. Watching you knock out Whittaker live was unreal. I remember thinking, ‘This guy is something special.’ When you fought Dricus, I was so nervous I had my girlfriend watch with me because my heart was racing. When you lost, I felt crushed-I even thought about giving up on UFC completely. You’re the reason I watch in the first place, and without you, it just wouldn’t feel the same. But seeing how you handled the loss with strength and grace lifted my spirits. You inspire me to keep pushing forward, no matter how tough things get. The love you show for your family and your unwavering spirit motivate me every day. I’ll always be rooting for you, Izzy.

Since this is the Stylebender community I’m just gonna let it all out here. This loss fucking hurt as a fan. Following Izzy for a longtime even in his kickboxing days, I’ve wanted to see him do all he can and more in the sport. GSP is my favorite all time fighter and I used to be a wreck with anxiousness before his fights. I couldn’t properly enjoy watching the win until the day after the fight. I had other fighters I liked and supported and when they lost it sucked but it was on to the next. When GSP more or less retired I felt like I could watch fights without an anxiousness because as a kyokushin practitioner he was what got me into the sport as a kid. He was my idol. When Izzy came along I really admired watching him and as an anime fan felt a since of kinship with him. He’s been unapologetically himself and very open and vulnerable. He’s not perfect, nor does he try to be but there was something about his style of striking that was captivating. Izzy really was next level coming into the UFC. When he lost to Alex that sucked. He came back and did the damn thing though. When he lost to Strickland I thought his body has just been through too much with no rest. The lost to Dricus I thought was very avoidable. Izzy was making mistakes I didn’t think he normally would. I don’t know what the future holds for him. This is a weird and unfamiliar place for him but regardless he’s still the 2nd greatest MW to ever do it and he elevated the sport with Kamaru and Francis. The era of the 3 kings was something special. This is a sport where because it is individual occupation we follow the journeys of singular martial artists and become attached to their journey. Their hopes and dreams. We celebrate when they do and often hurt when they do. We find ourselves caring about people we haven’t and may never meet, but we still care. Whatever you decide to do Izzy, your true fans are lifting our hands up and gathering our energy for you. 🏆🇳🇬

Agreed. By feints, I think the OP means Izzy was getting DDP to raise his arms/hands to protect his head and Izzy delayed his follow up to his jab to hit DDP’s body. He was doing this well in round 3 and very early in round 4. Then DDP rocked him and that was that. Felt like Izzy didn’t throw enough combinations through the fight, because when he did, he looked good and gave DDP more to think about. Perhaps he was a bit too circumspect and concerned about being stuck in the pocket/void with DDP for too long.

I hate to say this because I like Izzy, but I feel like after finally beating Alex, he lost his competitive nature… he proved to himself that he could overcome “the boogey man” and now he doesn’t have anything pushing him to be greater. He’s plateaued… Don’t get me wrong he will always be great, but him being okay with losses and not wanting to get them back just prevents him from reaching his true potential… imho He seems to be at a good place in life right now though so that trumps this fight game I’m sure. Props to him for that. I can imagine it’s tough to keep a level head in his shoes.

Izzy's biggest weakness IMO is not mixing things up. You are the most technical stand up fighter in the UFC, even more technical than Alex Pereira (who closes the technical gap with you with power), but what I think can make you more dangerous is mixing things up. Mixing things up makes it hard for fighters to fully commit their gameplan. Whether it is a clinch game, some takedowns, more use of knees and elbows etc. Just something that will add a bit more confusion to their rhythm. Yes I think CKB has paved the way with feinting, and you employ great stance switching, and you can fight outside the centre or within it, and you are great at setting traps, but I think when going up against these guys that know how to mix things up, you need a bit more to keep them guessing. Being purely technical against this guy can be tricky, because they will make the fight dirty/ugly.

@@Electiger-y5k I said IMO. I never said I was right. Though it is in fact true that MOST of the best coaches in the world, across all sports were not the best in the practical side of their sport. Eugene Bareman was NOT one of the best in MMA. I don't claim to be in the same boat, but my point is, the notion that there is some sort of 1:1 translation about being the elite fighter and capable of giving advise is nonsensical. Izzy even gets advise from his dad!

This fight exposed Adesanya's limitations. Great (incredible) kickboxer but when he faces someone who can stand up to that who also has solid grappling and the strength to take him down and keep him down, he struggles. Jan Blachowicz would be the other evidence of that. I guess if he is really serious about coming back and defeating DDP he's going to have to work on that. Also his defense is suspect against strikers at his level - as his three defeats to Pereira in kickboxing + one in MMA will attest. I think he would be so much better if he worked on his humility and recognized these weaknesses and developed these areas. I think if he does he has every chance of coming back and dominating again.
