@@Sean-sn9ld So the magazines that this soldier uses are some sort of metal, I don't know AK-style magazines so I won't even try to give you specifics. They're hardened enough to take a degree of mistreatment but if you're out, literally abusing your magazines on a regular expect failures. The thought process for quickly discarding a magazine though, is that it no longer serves you an active purpose and the weapon is no longer functioning as intended during the firefight (which is to be putting bullets downrange at the enemy to generally suppress or accurately disable them) and you need to change this dynamic swiftly. Cons are exactly what you've said to varying degrees, yes those things can occur but you'd have to survive the firefight and manually reload the magazines with new rounds. Polymer magazines are as far as I know very robust, due to quality of 'plastics' used and construction methods. I've never personally used one so I can't really talk about their pros or even cons properly. In theory they should be better but that's not always the case with military grade equipment. Should also see that the soldier doesn't seem to have a dump pouch, a small roll-able bag attached to them that they can put empty magazines on the fly and may have been more hassle to keep trying to put them back into magazine slots.
