My late husband was in Special Forces, Vietnam era. I cannot imagine the complexity of this operation. They must have practiced with mock-ups for weeks. Anything could have gone haywire at any given moment. The outcome was a miracle, no doubt of it. Israel is the land of one miracle after another. That the team leader lost his life is a terrible loss.

They don't "collect money". They get credits to use in the US defense industry. This helps keep the industry afloat. They also share intelligence and weaponry technology (Iron Dome) with the US, who would not get any such benefit from any other country in the Middle East.

Re flooding the tunnels - the Egyptians did with a few tunnels on their border - with sewage - for Israel, the tunnels are twice the length of the London underground - flooding the tunnels would have turned the groundwater saline and destroyed Gaza as a habitable environment, which is why Israel did not do it.
