Dr Jordan B. Peterson and Walter Russell Mead cross continents in a broad discussion over world affairs. They go in-depth on the state of China’s totalitarian regime, Vladimir Putin's plans for the war with Ukraine, the growing unrest under Iran’s iron fist, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, and how a push for American optimism is necessary to best face these emboldened challengers on the world stage.
Walter Russell Mead is a writer, professor, and academic, focusing his efforts on international policy and affairs. He is the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College and taught American foreign policy at Yale University. Mead has worked as a columnist for publications such as The Wall Street Journal and was editor at large for The American Interest. His books include “Mortal Splendor,” “Special Providence,” “Power, Terror, Peace and War,” “God and Gold,” and most recently “The Arc of a Covenant.”
Dr Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: utm.io/ueSXh

Besides the fact just wanted to thank you for saving my mentality as a young man. I’m an ex felon at 22 who now goes to church and has a family with communication beyond words. Our newborns life is better off for it. Not only did you save me as a young man but my daughters future. I should be dead and repeating an unstable gang like mentality…but Jordan Peterson teaches about overcoming trauma on KZbin lol. Love you and thank you wise guy.

7:58: 🌍 The current international situation is characterized by a crisis of opposition between the Anglo-American system and an alliance of revisionist powers. 11:20: 🌍 Diversity of approach in the United States beats the efficiency of a monolithic view, allowing for continuous innovation and adaptation. 21:57: 🌍 The speaker reflects on the transformation of China from a country associated with famine to an economic powerhouse, but also highlights concerns about the Chinese Communist Party's control and the potential impact on international order. 32:49: 💡 The West's economic prosperity is built on the principles of liberalism, individual sovereignty, and the right to private property, which are lacking in centralized control systems. 43:26: 🌍 Putin's goal in Ukraine is to prevent Western expansionism and maintain Russian dominance, as a successful and prosperous Ukraine poses a threat to his power and vision at home. 59:09: 🌍 The Iranian regime benefits from having enemies like the US and Israel, and is unlikely to give up its hostility towards them. 1:05:46: 📚 The discussion revolves around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the history of the region, and the challenges of finding a solution. 1:16:51: 🌍 The historical record does not support the claim that Israel is a European colonial venture in the Middle East. 1:27:52: 🌍 The left's change in relationship to Israel may be due to Israel's shift from socialism to a free-market capitalist state, its military power, and its technological advancements. 1:47:47: 🌍 The Anglo-American system of a commercial capitalist global liberal framework has solid reasons to continue lasting, with advantages in creativity, vitality, and geopolitical positioning. 1:49:14: 🌍 Alliances and the principles of the Anglo-American relationship have historically played a crucial role in countering threats from ambitious powers and promoting peace and prosperity. I was reading the great turnaround stories here, shared by young men who'd been encouraged by Jordan Peterson and are grateful. I just want to point out to them that their own stories are very inspiring and their example for successful living today is passing on Jordan's words to other young men. You're all a light ✨️ now in your family and community. So much respect 🙏 to you all.

@@ivank656 Marawi siege happened a long time ago. Where many civilian people were being hostage and some got killed. If my memory serves it correctly. There were rebels which associated themselves as ISIS and they siege a specific place as it was being reported on TV news. It takes a long period of time before it was settled by army and other some powerful groups of the country. According to the news (not quite sure if it was true though) The mastermind was a member of ISIS from a different country. I think after the war they settled a peace to talk to resolve the issue. Of course casualties can't be avoided on this matter. Many civilians lost their houses, livelihood, a place to stay and loved ones. This was one of the most terible event that happened and was not being resolved in a short period of time by the authorities. I dunno what the administration doing on those times.

One of the best most lucid conversations I’ve ever heard discussing the state of our world today and our past history and where we are going. Mr Mead has a detached mind few have like Jordan where he’s wanting to understand each point of view not necessary judge it has good or evil but why it is what it is, like how the history of each country brings about such horrible leaders. This conversation should be todays social studies class so kids understand that democratic and free societies evolve in such a dynamic beautiful mysterious way where what we have our lifestyles compared to the average Chinese or Russian? I always tell my friends get in a plane and go there and try speaking honestly and see what happens? Thank you again this was special and helped me personally understand some situations I was wanting to understand more clearly.

Working on the farm, you know that things have to grow. Do it right, and they grow. Do it wrong, and they don't grow. That's the basic premise. By their fruits, ye shall know them. Sometimes it takes a while to tune into the right wavelength when entering a new area of study; once you do, it's easy sailing. It's like learning a new language. Once you learn Spanish, you can easily understand everything anybody in Mexico is saying. Keep at it. If you don't understand something, just keep going. The blank spaces will fill out later once you catch the general drift, the overall picture. Above all, enjoy. A relaxed mind is much more receptive than a tense one. Peterson is great. A great thinker and a great speaker with a heart of gold.

Dr. Petersen, my Bulgarian wife and I watch many of your interviews and videos. We admire you and learn a lot from you. We liked some parts of this interview, but the Ukraine - Russia situation is much more complex and the collective West is and its aspirations are to be blamed before Putin is blamed. If you have not watched professor Mearsheimer’s lectures, please check “Why is Ukraine the West’s fault”, given at the University of Chicago 7 years ago. I find it very informative and historically correct. Nobody in North America talks about what really happened in Ukraine in 2014 and the genocide towards the Russian population in Donbas Region for 8 years. Colonel Douglas McGregor also has regular analysis and updates on the situation. Very informative. The truth cannot be heard from ‘legacy media’ as you know it very well. Please check the Colonel.

Looking for a way to reply that's not 2000 replies down the page. :) Great discussion as always and very helpful. Two comments. First- at least in Russia/Ukraine un regulated freedom saw basically the collapse of society on every level. For awhile there potatoes were a form of currency. Thugs were breaking into people's apartments and ejecting the tenants. Firm rule brought an end to this. So not only dictators fear democracy. Secondly- democracy still has the terrible habit of trying to spread itself through violent means via the gun, through the support of dictators, with multi nationals running amuck, etc. Mind you- Western democracy has been largely admired throughout the world. But if it is to survive and not atrophy it needs to more carefully look at why or how it works where it does and also get rid of its Conquistador tendency to ride rough shod over other cultures. I suppose the answer here is a needed level of humility even if we believe western democracy works best.
