guys, don't try it for too long, i did it once and i leaved my smartphone like in the video for the whole flight. when I took it again it was extremely hot and would not turn on anymore, this is because when you pass the cloud layer, the phone has direct access to the sun's rays (the clouds covered them a bit)

During take-off and landing procedures, you are not supposed to close the window shades because an aircraft engine undergoes major controlled stress on all its peripherals. Thus there is ONE in a million chance that some fault may occur and you as a passenger may be the first one to observe it (such as sparks or fumes) and you can save everyone's life on board. Primarily it's for the flight attendants, so that they can have a clear view of the engines. So don't close the window shades during take-off and landing. Thank you for reading.

Hi guys * actually Flight attendant here for a mainline airline carrier*. In regards to keeping the window shade open. We ask our passengers to open the window shade for take off and landing in case of an emergency. It keeps people vigilant & aware of your own surroundings. We flight attendant are typically seated at the very front or very back of the plane maybe mid we can’t really see the engines from where we are. So in a way we rely on you guys letting us know if anything unusual happens. Especially those sitting near the engines. I always say this quote to my passengers “if you see something say something” if you see the engine suddenly fall off during take off ☝️🔘🔆 ring that button just above your head. It saves lives literally . Bye guys. 👋

I have to warn anyone trying this- if you have a window seat facing the sun, DO NOT do this time-lapse. Your phone will overheat and might shut down to prevent damage. However this function issnt enough sometimes and could endanger not just your life, but everyone's life on the plane. Heating up a lithium battery is not good.
