They ask the 'friends' off camera to point out all the flaws etc. Its a show designed to show a freak, and then someone puts them in their place - the audience is meant to be annoyed, and then feel gratitude when the friends rip into them. on terms of cheapskates this is nothing. its not like shes doing abhorrent like some of the others on the show like 2min shower or dishwasher lasagna. like you can view digging in the trash for closed container food thats past its expiration weird but food shelters do that. minus the digging in trash. like alot of food is still good to eat 2-5 days after its goes bad and powdered ingredient much much longer.

This is my problem with humans in general, always looking for an excuse to look down on others to make themselves feel better. Shopping is a social status thing in America. The vast majority of American's lives revolve around buying something. Going out to eat, buying nick knacks, new clothing, and all whether you need to or not. Usually from the same people who complain about the environment being polluted. Got to draw the line at the food though. If I found out the food they were serving me came from thrown away food, nope, not gonna eat it. I would respectfully decline and if they asked why I would honestly tell them that the fact it comes from trash is grossing me out, even if I know it isn't spoiled.
