A quick viewing guide ... 0:40 Ever wonder what would happen if you could take all the checking action of hockey but have no boards to stop you from crashing into some bleachers? Uncontroversial decision from the ref. 1:10 "Ref, that's very dangerous play, eh?" Oh, Canada ... (And yes, it was. The only counterargument would be that the guy trying the midfield overhead kick didn't hear the guy racing up from behind him, but I'd think he should've been aware. We don't see what the ref called -- could've let it go, could've played advantage.) 1:29 "I put my arm up, and he ran into my elbow" -- ref has a brilliant retort. 2:04 The Zidane headbutt, adapted for run-of-play defense. Somehow only a yellow, and the guy still acts surprised. 2:20 "Hey, I think I'll get horizontal and wildly swing my legs at the ball!" "Cool! I'll slide in as well, so we can BOTH be reckless!" We don't see the ref's decision, alas. 2:50 Don't watch while eating. More of a function of a horrible field than foul play. Good unity with both teams yelling for an ambulance. 3:20 Another hockey check. What'd the ref decide? 3:45 "No, it's MY turn to run into the goal post! You can do the next one!" 4:12 Gruesome hand injury somehow 5:12 "It's shoulder to shoulder," says the guy who slammed his shoulder into someone's face. (Fun fact: "Shoulder to shoulder" doesn't appear in the LOTG.) 5:27 Electric Boogaloo (watch to the end) 6:03 Two words: Shin guards 6:24 You can actually hear the shirt being ripped 6:49 Goalkeeper demonstrates incompetence at diving AND fighting 7:20 Defender slides where ball had been a few seconds earlier but finds only opponents' legs. Good decision by ref. 8:00 Wow, soccer players can't fight 8:24 Wow, soccer players can't fight 9:10 I really need to know what the league decided about No. 42's sucker punch 9:42 A comedy of errors 10:05 Why get the ball when you can get the man? 10:29 See 10:05 (I have to know what the league did with this dude, too) 11:15 "What are we doing here?" (I think it's a legit no-call, frankly) 11:45 Two words: Shin guards 12:25 "He's gotta be gone, ref!" Yeah, but the ref has to see it, and were any ARs there? Someone convinces him to show red, but who? 12:50 Oops, got your ankle. Here, let's stretch. 13:22 "I trip you, you trip me, we're all acting quite badly ..." 13:34 Wow, soccer players can't fight 13:55 Two minutes for boarding 14:15 At least it was unintentional 14:52 What's almost as bad as raising your boot to someone's face? 15:09 Foul worthy of consideration for a straight red ... 15:20 Replays of that foul end, so we're back in real time ... ... ... ... 15:40 Ref finally arrives on the scene and says, "Let me handle it." (There are two schools of thought here. One is to race in and defuse the situation. The other is to take your time making a decision -- coaches, players and fans hate it, but it can help a ref process what happened and make a better call. Still -- you can always get there, defuse, and THEN make the call ...) 15:55 Friendly fire 16:36 No, in hockey checks, you're not allowed to use your foot as well ... 16:50 Another hockey check 17:45 And the ref shows yellow to ... someone 18:45 And the discussion continues. Maybe now that he has his second yellow, he'll win the argument 19:30 "Do you like airplane rides?" 19:55 Wow, Canadians really like hockey ... 20:45 Wow, soccer players can't fight 21:24 That's actually a pretty weak one to end on. A little late, but nothing too far from the ordinary.
