I've been running my 1500 (24v) 3 blades into 12 v bank and it's done really well. Tried it with a 24v battery bank but it did'nt reach cut in soon enough for my liking. But works great with 12v bank. Highly recommended. Running into 12v I can't brag about getting the spec 1500w but doesnt matter at all. Main thing is that I easily get 3-600 watts in my usual 10 to 20mph winds. ( peaks to about 1000w in 25mph winds ). Great machine.

You should check out our first setup at 12v. Yes it's easier for magnetic generators to provide power at lower voltages as it requires slower rpm however the trade off is higher workload on inverters resulting in them burning out faster. Don't get me wrong I'm a firm believer in simplest is best but after hard gained experience found that 24v is a happy medium when combined with solar to run domestic appliances reliably. Small setup definately do 12v, bigger setup then 24v is the winner, solar only can then consider 48v and above. Like your style my friend, as a mechanic of 20yrs 12v was my go to as I knew it so well. It was after a year of building a system that we needed to rely on that I learned 24v is a little bit less maintenance.

@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Your 5 blades only cut out the production at high speeds compared to 3 blades and more expensive.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Жыл бұрын
@@SoWeird66 5 blades increases production at low speeds and better suits the low height environment in which this turbine operates. The result is that the turbine produces power more often instead of having to wait for big gusts to do anything.

Looks like you have the same wind speed I have. I like the slow speed to voltage output. In good wind it would do great for 24 volts or more. 12 volts you may want 6 long blades or so. That would help keep it at lower speeds in higher wind. P.S Put a brake switch on it for that very high wind. You can cut the blades back like I do for more speed if needed. Good luck.

@basilkey2949 I've had two i1500s running for 2 years now. Both at 12volts. Feeding 9 130ah lead acids. Really please with them. Did try them at 24v with 5 blade and 3 blade hubs. For my location, 12v with 3 blades seems optimal. I take note that some one said the wiring wasn't adequate but remember that there are 3 wires sharing currently 120deg apart so not as bad as it seems. Certainly, I've seen 850watts at 15v in really high winds (60 to 70 amps) but the norms is 100 to 400watts which is fine. No problem with the slip rings yet. Checkd resistance across the 3 phase combos at Xmas. All still very close, even when allowing the the props slowly. Did my end of month tally (I should get out more😁). 48kwh on turbine 1, 26kwh on turbine no.2. Its lower down the hill. So 74kwh for wind. Off grid solar 2kw, 55kwh. 3.8kw grid tied : 265kwh. Wind not great but very worthwhile at night and today (overcast 15mph). Great fun.

Thanks for that advice. Will probably revert to 24v in the future. I did actually have some good success with a £23 boost converter off ebay, running into a 24v bank. I did'nt pursue it long term as I thought it was yet another potentional point of failure. So maybe I took a wrong turn there. All good fun and good learning regardless..

I bought this Istabreeze 1500 watt wind turbine. I have had 25 mph winds lately and the thing sounds like it's going wild. So I was wondering if you can show a video on how to slow it down.???

Ooh nice! Be brave, but wait a week or so until these strong gusts pass 😁. We've a couple of vids on our channel of putting up our turbine and its absolutely flying. Made a huge difference overall to the off grid system and in 20kmh winds in sounds like ocean waves breaking gently on the beach. Hope you get yours up soon and best of luck with it. 👍

I keep looking at the i1500.... I am watching your findings with interest👍... OOI is the controller in the kit configured for Solar AND Wind at the same time? (or is it either or?) Thanks
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, based on the bench test I'd say "go for it" provided that you have sufficient wind in your area. The controller is configured for wind and solar at the same time but only 600watts max of solar power making the solar side of the controller a little bit pointless tbh.

It seems that those wind turbines are decent. This is rare in this price category. I think that it is because they are not made in China. In China they all lie about power and quality. I have seen a 50W turbine labelled at 12000W !!! The same 50W turbine, they all label wattage from 500W to 3000W...for 50W... One thing people should be aware, is that a cheap real 3000W wind turbine weight around 450lbs and costs more than 4000$.

Yep, an absolute scam! Istabreeze are more trustworthy with their claims, however we have found minor issues with the slip ring being undersized at a 20amp rating. This part unfortunately does fail. With that said larger alternatives can be fitted with only minor modifications, fixing the problem. Great info,Thanks for checking out the vid.

first off all to test the generator with no load do not give you any indication on what it can produce. I have on off this istabreeze and its just garbage. The slipring is not capable to handel the amps from the generator. The connection between the generator and slipring is also crap. Maximum production I have had on my generator is 1250 watts at peak and when it's been gusting 28 ms. would never advise anybody to buy this product. have been living offered since 2012-2014 and sadly its not many of the wind generators that actually give what they promise
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Жыл бұрын
You're not wrong, the wiring on the slip ring is way below standard for sure, less than half the size required to carry "potentially" 60amps. You might be interested in our latest video on this machine. Thanks for tuning in to the channel 👍
