I spend one and a half months of the year in Turkey. One month working, fifteen days vacation. One day I got sick. I rested for three days. While I was thinking about what to do now in this sick situation, my colleagues came to me for three days, checked how I was and brought pots of food. Even my mother didn't do this to me 😅 Turks are good people 😊

I'm from Switzerland and I was in Istanbul last month, it's the most beautiful city I've visited in my life, I've been to many countries but I've never seen anything like Istanbul, it's just beautiful and the people are just great ! I'm even thinking about buying a house!

Evet, Turk Insanlar cok Altin Kalp var...i was stuck in istanbul for 4 months during the height of the pandemic...i still remember the health minister announcing the curfew to begin at midnight, that annocement came at 10pm, my landlord banged on my door dundee, dundee!!!!. get some water, get anything !!!!after midnight we dont know what will happen.....well me, and waht seemed and half the population of Istanbul flooded the streets that night in desperation, to find food and water, BIM,MIGOs,SOK shelves were all bare within like 30 mins...crazy crazy time, but we survived....but Turkish people are the best!!!!!...i was in a poor neighbourhood south of Oman cadessi yet the people made me very welcome...i miss my Su boregi and chi evey morning

Heres something you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird ''turkey''. Name of my country has always been Turkiye, that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means ''land of/belonging to''... ...just like the Latin suffix -ia in such countries as Latv-ia, Roman-ia, Eston-ia, Austr-ia, Austral-ia etc etc. Another example; decades ago Czechoslovakia Republic changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). Anyways, most likely the Latin -ia suffix was derived from the Turkish version -iye, as Turkish is much much older. Because in old times people of different languages could only pronounce it as their languages allowed them, we got various differences in spelling like Turchia (in Italian), Turquie (in French) and Turkey (in English) all trying to resemble the pronounciation of ''Turk-ia'' thus Turkiye. Mind you this was way BEFORE the animal we currently know as 'turkey'' was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird ''Turkey Fowl'' meaning ''Turkish Chicken''..... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), Rhodesian Ridgeback (because it's from Rhodesia), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the Greek Harehound as simply as ''Greek''; or you don't call the British Terrier as ''British''; or the German Shepherd as ''German'', but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just ''turkey'', and has been going on for hundreds of years. Now in 2023, this is causing confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their OWN country on the atlas, this ''confusion over the naming'' needed to be corrected. So my country decided to rectify this confusion that has been going on for so long and corrected the name in other languages to Türkiye, which it always was, we basically didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

I wish you a good day, I also live in Istanbul. We have pharmacists on duty who work outside business hours. You do not need to go to the nearest pharmacy to see which pharmacy is open, it is published as a list on the internet. In addition, since Istanbul is both a living city and a production city, not every neighborhood is comfortable for living. In some areas of Istanbul, you can find neither garbage on the streets nor cars on the sidewalks. Naturally, I recommend that a foreigner coming to Turkey get tips about life in Turkey from your close and trusted Turkish friend.

Hi Yulia. Thanks for a great video. ✌We need more videos like this, I mean videos that express honest opinion about our (mega)city. I only watched the first 4ish minutes, but let me ask you and other Europeans: Why do you select Taksim and surroundings for housing? I mean I lived (12 years) in Northeastern US, but never in Manhattan. Here, I live in Etiler and it is very comfortable to get anywhere from here and you have all the amenities at your disposal. Honestly, for me (as an Istanbulean as far as it goes - even my grandmother's parents are from here) Taksim, Eminönü, Sultanahmet, even Şişli and Nişantaşı are somewhat exotic places where none of my friends live and visit. You have to move to the North. One addition after watching the 19th minute, if people can't differentiate between Nescafe or Filter Coffee or Americano, you are definitely in the wrong part of town. Hello! Thanks for your question, but for sure I’m afraid I can’t tell you this info correct, because this whole year we had experience living only in one area is Şişli. And I’d like to say that it’s pretty nice place for living! Also I like districts Sariyer and Caddebostan, but again I didn’t live there. If you don’t need to be close to business centers I think Asian side of Istanbul is perfect!

Why did you guys choose İstanbul? How about smaller towns like Fethiye, etc. Also, what's the cost of a home to buy now to obtain residency? Used to be 50, then 75, then $200k.

About air pollution i can’t say nothing right now since I’m here more then 1 year :) but earthquakes are really scary me but we are prepared all the stuff we need and just hope like it’s gonna be fine. Maybe it’s stupid a little but it is like this for now:)

Let me explain this from a foreigner's perspective: As incoming immigrants, especially Arabs, become involved in the domestic political issues of the Turks, hostility towards Arabs will increase exponentially. The stupidest thing in the world is to take sides on political issues in a foreign country. My only fear is that until I retire and move to Turkey, the country will definitely close its doors to foreigners, especially due to its Middle Eastern population.

It is very unfortunate and I am sorry as a Turkish person. I've been to many middle eastern countries (for work) and I was welcomed everywhere. This racist or antagonistic attitude has to do with the ruling party and its ideology to take us from a secular to an islamic state. Some Turkish people express their negative opinion (about the ruling party) in unwanted ways. Sorry again for your experience.

Unfortunately, you are right. But it is not just because you are Arab and people do not like Arabic people for no reason. As @carbonoksit2086 said, it became a serious political issue in the country in the last 10 years. The government accepted over 8 million immigrants to the country without any control or planning. This has changed the social and economic situations of the country drastically. Political parties are producing racist arguments to be able to get people's votes. If you see the problem from that perspective, you may understand people. In fact, it is an immigrant issue. Otherwise, half of the population in my city (Hatay) is Arab. We are very close and sincere, like family.

1st minute on your video you said "istanbul is very dirty place" and showing one of the urban area. You can not generalize and demonstrate as Istanbul is very dirty. @@SenorJuan2023 how do you know ahead when kids develops an allergic reaction to something? Gets virus? Kicks head/ leg or whatever? Gets stomach flu and develops diarrhea? There is no much sense to go to emergency in the middle of the night or on weekends. You go to pharmacy get ibuprofen/paracetamol , or light anti allergy syrup, or anti diarrhea syrup without any prescription. Then on Monday you get an appointment with pediatrician and if the case is severe they prescribe antibiotics or something else. You can’t simply buy all the medicines for kids in advance- the case with liquid form is that once you opened them the storage time is super short, like in a month you have to throw it away. So you simply need to know the nearest pharmacy.

the dirt on the streets is due politics mot of the district are in the hands of chp and they use the money given by the government for supporting their own politic campagne so you have to go to different districts in istanbul and google whıch party is reigning over that district and see if there is a difference between akp party reign and chp party coz akp district city have a good name and chp district mahalle's have a bad reputation for 4 years now

when you say bon appetite, you wish much desire to other so they can eat well. saying that at the beginning of a dinner or breakfast makes more sense. afiyet means health. afiyet olsun therefore means "let it be health for you". that's not the same with bon appetite at all and perfect to say to somebody when they are done eating. - yemek çok güzeldi. şiştim! (food was so good, i'm full!) - afiyet olsun (let it be health for you, hope all that you ate makes you healtier. more slang version: "yarasın". we especially say that after the person burps.)
