My family (mom, dad, brother) and I lived in Beykoz, Bosporus long time ago, (all my loved ones passed now). Dad was a surgeon, worked as a chief doctor at a nearby hospital (Paşabahçe). Many times, my dear brother and I brought wounded cats home, and our darling dad (as he got home from work) cared for them. Mom always had food, fresh water, blankets where they could sleep warm and cosy. İşte böyle… İstanbul’daki kedi 🐈‍⬛ güzelliği bitmez. Hepinize miyav ve sevgiler ♥️.

They are not homeless they live where they want. Turkey does not have a policy of euthanizing stray animals and veterinary services are provided by the state. Food is also provided by the state but feeding cats has always been a popular practice here.

My country never learned how to keep animals as their friends. They leave the newly born kittens without thinking that they can only digest milk , how can these kittens survived with the kind people giving food. They even placed it in a plastic back fully tighten and thrown to the trash and let the animals died there. I salute Turkish friends for being so civilized and caring. great idea! not only for cats, but for birds, dogs, squirrels, ducks, swans and so long: all kind of animal in great cities MUST HAVE drinking-feeding bowls and shelters strategically places along the cities. I'd be happy to pay a tax for this!

En France, les chats ne peuvent pas vivre tranquillement comme ça. Dans beaucoup de quartiers, des voisins ne veulent pas qu'on leur donne à manger, des enfants les poursuivent et leur font du mal, ainsi que des voisins méchants. Donc je pense que le paradis pour eux est à Istanbul.

Here also some people may complain because too many cats resident in a small street and they poo in gardens and few apartments have large garden ^^ like our house , strays from other streets even coming to poo in garden it is gross but yes also its their space we have to share it with them. I still try to feed them and share some food i ve they need to eat real meat and wet food too.Also we cant raise any veggie in garden cat hair and so on haha i will try to do it in pots on balcony. Its not super healthy to clean stray animals poo need to be extra cautious not inhale anything. Actually being mad and cruel to innocent animals is not very smart they just born here and trying to live silently with whatever they have, our duty trying to make their hard life easier which does not cost much to us. For complains in your neighbourhood its also understandable they may not like feeding, personal choice. But if they treating them badly i would chase those kids haja

I am a Turkish person. And i can say that we love all animals because of our God, Allah. We believe that they are innocent creatures. And we have responsibilities for them. Not just cat, also we treat well other animals. Like stray dogs, pigeons even gulls at shores. This looks now it comes from cultural. But it has bigger profound. It comes from our religion, Islam.

This actually gave me anxiety, what if some of those cats fall into that "canal" through which train passes? I never use subway due to my claustrophobia, I can't stand that "canal" passage for trains. I keep thinking someone will fall into it if I'm down there, especially animals and small kids.

Turkish stray cats are so distinguished, they know their borders very well, they don't pass the yellow lines, because everytime they try, someone stops them, they learn ;)
