Hungarian clarinetist István KOHÁN is fast becoming one of the most exciting wind instrumental soloist of his generation.
Kohán launched his career when he won 1st prize and audience prize at the 11th Tokyo Music Competition, Japan in 2013. In 2015 he won 1st prize and audience prize at Japan’s most prestigious music contest the 84th Japanese Music Competition. The same year he won 1st prize and audience prize at Japan Woodwind Competition, 1st prize and Grand Prix at Akiyoshidai Music competition. He won 24 prizes at 15 competitions. In 2013 he won the Junior Prima Award (Music Division).
On his regular recitals in addition to his wide classical repertory he plays his own compositions and improvise as well. Kohán is keenly expand the existing clarinet repertoire by writing new pieces what usually inspired by his musical roots. His father is an outstanding klezmer musician then this genre is like native language for him. The other great inspiration source is Hungarian folk music.
Kohán is a Yamaha Artist. This collaboration with the Japanese company let him to reach higher levels in his musicality with the best quality of instruments.
He performed with orchestras in Japan as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kioi Sinfonietta with conductors as Antonio Mendez, Kazuki Sawa, Toshiaki Umeda, Masahiko Enkoji, Shigeo Genda.
He born in 1990 in Budapest, Hungary. Started to learn the clarinet under his father. Then he admitted to the class of special talents at Béla Bartók Conservatory. He graduated at the Franz Liszt Academy of music Budapest in 2013. From 2014 he started his postgraduate studies at Tokyo College of Music.

ハンガリー出身のコハーン・イシュトヴァーンは世界でも数少ないクラリネットソリストの一人。
1990年ブダペストにて音楽一家のもとに生まれ、弱冠9歳で舞台デビュー、12歳でバルトーク音楽院英才教育コースに入学した。J.リヒテルクラリネットコンクール（ハンガリー）第１位、カルリーノ国際音楽コンクール（イタリア）第１位、アントンエベルスト国際クラリネットコンクール（セルビア）第１位、ICA国際クラリネットコンクール史上最年少第１位など、国内外計16の国際コンクール・18部門で優勝・入賞する快挙を成し遂げる。ハンガリー国立リスト音楽院卒業後の2013年7月に活動拠点を日本に移した。第11回東京音楽コンクール木管部門第１位及び聴衆賞受賞。第４回秋吉台音楽コンクール第１位及び山口県知事賞（グランプリ）を受賞。第26回日本木管コンクール第１位及びコスモス賞（聴衆賞）受賞。第84回日本音楽コンクール第１位及び岩谷賞（聴衆賞）受賞。ハンガリーの若手芸術の分野で最も権威のある賞「ジュニア・プリマ・アワード」2013年度受賞。現在、特別特待奨学生として東京音楽大学大学院において研鑽に励んでいる。ハンガリー・日本で主要オーケストラとコンチェルトを協演、またソロリサイタルや室内楽の活動を展開する他、2014年からは作曲家としても活動の幅を広げる。

hello, kohan. is your thumb position comfortable?? if you comment my question, that will be very helpful to me. because i have anxiety to my right hand's fingering..

Dear Sungtea Lee, since nobody has answered yet, I'd like to share my thoughts as a pro player and teacher. Every hand is different and every player has to find their individual pose. If it is correct depends on: can you play comfortably and relaxed, without building up tension when playing. Can you do reach all holes and keys with ease. Can you perform well? If you answer all questions with yes you are good to go. But keep in mind: the first one is most important. Our health is most important, we can't be forcing our hands into injuries.
