Most of my fellow Americans think this is a song about the War of 1812, when I know it's about the Russian defense of a Napoleonic invasion. Tchaikovsky is the master of melody and I've always love this but...this is next level. So much energy.

Despite all the dancing which is very enjoyable to watch, I do admire Simonov conducting skill as he always brings something interesting even though the score may have been heard a thousand times, I do find his way on balancing out the orchestra sound to be appealing.
