As always iam gathering main theme of poem and poet biography briefly here it’s my heart leaps up poem describes pure delight speaker feels upon seeing rainbow this joy promotes speaker to reflect on passing time and significance of childhood it’s in childhood poem argues people first feel sense of powerful awe wonder at natural world around them . thank you for sharing your analysis of this poem, i have to study it along with 9 other poems that have been written throughout this time period for my next english exam. its hard to understand some really old words or "the old way of writing" that some of them had. thnx for clarifying once again!

Would you say that the triadic structure in the recurring 3 lines that start with "so" suggests that he believes his life will be content and jovial with the holy trinity (trinity in latin is 3). I think this is a possible suggestion as there is an abundance of christianity in the semantic field of the poem and so many possible metaphors relating to the Bible. For example, the "rainbow in the sky" could be a biblical metaphor of the rainbow Noah saw- as you stated. If we also consider that he was a devoted christian this could be true. Even though he says "the child is the father of the man", this line couldn't be talking about the trinity as he would be contradicting himself. So, we would have to assume that he's solely talking about the typical romantic view that children and their innocence are to be upheld above adults as adults are corrupted by the natural world. LET ME KNOW IF YOU THINK THIS SUGGESTION ABOUT THE TRINITY IS VIABLE.

so "was" "is" and "be" must mean "existed, exists and will always exist" and "it" refers to the rainbow
