Bloody hell Roy you are risking it at the TravelLodge in Scarborough, your bike would be cleaner than the room.! :-) Mind the Grand across the road is the last hotel you'd want to stop at.... Grand no longer!. Used to supply to Premier Inn they don't like costs or indeed paying suppliers!

Hi Roy and Wendy. I agree with you about that path being truly awful. The leaflet we had described the Cinder Path as being suitable for families - it certainly was not! We stayed at Robin Hood bay last Autumn and struggled to Scarborough and back, it took much longer than we expected, mainly due to the very poor surface and the hills. Also there wasn’t much to see, as the view was hidden by the trees for much of the way. The next day we went in the other direction to Whitby, that was a really nice ride, although not so many miles. You did very well , especially as you don’t do big hills usually😂 Just joking. Keep up the great videos!

Roy and Wendy… watched with great interest. Well done to you both. Clearly a demanding day’s journey. Nevertheless, it’s generally the tough days that one remembers best when the ride is completed. The easy sunny days are delightful of course, and we all hope for those days when planning an adventure. I’ll look forward to the final days and the route amendments if they are still to come. Finding a new Ride With Roy video certainly improved my mood this morning. That first part where you were riding to meet Paul really showed how a city/town can do right by its cyclists with their lovely separated bike paths. I did get a chuckle because every time you or Wendy mentioned 'cycle path', KZbin's captioning interpreted it as 'psychopath'. 😅 That legend about the monkey was interesting, to be sure. Wendy had a good arm tossing that penny into the monkey's box. 👍 Those little lambs were sooo cute and LOUD. They were ready to follow Wendy, running after her along the fence line. I had been wondering what you did with your bikes at night. Even tho that Premier Inn allowed the bikes inside, the lack of a working lift assured they wouldn't be getting a five star review! That 5th day into Scarborough seemed extra tough. The music thru the 'Enchanted Forest' was appropriate. Riding thru farmers' fields, lifting loaded bikes over fences, going along rough, muddy trails would surely have done me in. You are both to be commended for your perseverance. And just think -- when you get back home and are riding without the loaded packs, it's going to feel so freeing. 😊
@wendysheehan24134 ай бұрын
Ohhh it was 5p which was quite a feat! They are quite a small coin. I loved those lambs - hindsight we think they were warning us to turn round and not carry the bikes over 5 fences/stiles!
@LLewis-vu9qf4 ай бұрын
@@wendysheehan2413 -- you may be right about the lambs. They were certainly bleating loudly enough. 😉 Sorry about calling it a penny. I'm not knowledgeable about British currency. It was a good throw. If I had thrown, it would have landed in the water. 😏🙃

Good to see others grinding up the hills , I live in a low mountain are in France , there is no escaping hills - even the " flat " is 1 - 3 % ? I long for somewhere flat to cycle . I find it best to stop at the the top and recover for a few minutes .
@RideWithRoy2 ай бұрын
@@Harleytravels-m1t I think we would be doing a lot of walking if we lived in your area 😀 We are fortunate in our home area as we can choose climby or flat, or a mix of both. The flat routes catch many out though, as it there can be some ferocious headwinds - and they always seem to be headwinds.

Hi Roy, Wendy - really enjoying watching your travels. Have to say the audio between Wendy and yourself is superb. Is that some intercom system? The reason I ask is that when I go for a cycle I often struggle to hear other cyclists if they are a bit further away or if its a windy day... Thanks and take care!

Marvellous fossils on the Whitby coast, especially at Robin Hoods Bay. Some of those sections across fields looked pretty frustrating. How did your new Wahoo Roam go?
@RideWithRoy4 ай бұрын
I did consider routing via the bay but this particular fossil felt it a hill too far 😀 The Wahoo worked particularly well although the operator failed a couple of times with interpretation. Interestingly, both the Wahoo and Wendy’s Garmin caused confusion a couple of times but, fortunately, not at the same time. I was particularly pleased with the control the Wahoo update provides for the Garmin Varia - only switching the light on when it detects traffic. It usually struggled with battery life for a full day, so this made a huge difference. Having said that, the Varia has just completely died, but that’s a story for another day.

The premier inn should guarantee a good night sleep or your money back so if you both didn’t sleep well you should get a refund. I once got a free breakfast as someone had left their toenail cuttings by the chair in my room. Love Whitby! 50 miles across fields and walking up hills must make the day longer.

Hi Roy and Wendy may I ask what are you pair using to communicate while you are riding ,it seems a lot easier than Jackie and me shouting and waving at each other which is what we are doing at the moment?.
@RideWithRoy3 ай бұрын
Hi, Doug. We do shout and wave (usually Wendy telling me to slow down) so no technology involved. We do use radio microphones to record the video, but we can’t hear the result when riding. I will try to get hold of some comms units to test, as I have no experience of these. On the other hand, it can be useful to be selectively out of earshot..😀
